First self-pub by Kaylea Cross holds up well

Kaylea Cross is one of my favourite romantic writers. She researches her details carefully and always crafts a plot that is interesting and makes sense. A departure from her other titles (she has mostly written contemporary military suspense romance, and one paranormal romance), this story takes place during the American Civil War. Civil war details permeate this story, from the locations of confrontations to the names of the war heroes. The fact-based action does not detract from the romance storyline, which introduces Brianna, a widow and a nurse, and Justin, an officer. Some of the storyline is of course a little over dramatic, as the genre expects. On the whole, this is a well-crafted story which accurately depicts the events and lives - the poverty and hunger, the horrific injuries, the deaths - of the period. I enjoyed this book, but my favourite Kaylea Cross title is still "Relentless"
