    Big ending

An interesting book. I found that it dragged in the middle a bit. A big ending made it worthwhile.

    Transcription

I found this hard going - a lot of description that I felt didn't add to the plot. I usually love her books but this one - not so much. The time sequence worked but it was still disjointed. I think it might be because I didn't really get drawn into the story and therefore remained an uninvolved reader.

    Another winner by Atkinson

Kate Atkinson is one of my favourite writers. Her style is wonderful, as is her sense of place and character.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, particularly when the narrator gave her asides. A few laugh out loud moments and also many serious facts that I hadn't known about the war. Great surprise ending.

    Transitions

This is a mesmerizing read! Atkinson’s ‘transition,’ from one period to another is seamless. The ending is so unexpected yet so skillful it is a tour d’force. The sombrero humour is wonderful. Worth a reread.
