  • What happened at the BBQ?

Flipping between present day and the day of the BBQ drove me crazy with anticipation. I wanted to know what horrible thing happened at this BBQ that changed the lives of everyone there! 3 families have their lives altered when they attend a last-minute invitation to a BBQ. Erika & Oliver are childless. Erika's childhood BFF Clementine & her husband Sam have 2 young daughters, Holly & Ruby. Erika's neighbours Tiffany & Vid have a 10 yr old daughter, Dakota. One moment of inattention has everyone re-evaluating their lives. Riveting 420 pages altering between now and the BBQ reveal all their childhoods and how their experience has shaped them as adults.

  • Truly Madly Guiltily

Excellent book! I loved the tension that slowly built throughout the story with ever deepening character development. Liane Moriarty must have some psychology (degree?) in her past as her analysis of people, their motives and her insight into their thought process was remarkable! And because of her wicked attention to detail, the characters within this novel seriously ring true. Loved it!

  • Slower than I thought...

I was excited for this book, but it was pretty anticlimactic. I expected more from it and was disappointed.

  • Loved it!

I loved this book! The mystery of what happened at "the barbecue" kept me turning pages and the friendship between Clementine and Erika was so interesting. I loved how the chapters alternated between the present and the day of "the barbecue", how the author wrote the present chapters without giving away anything about what happened. I can't wait for the next book from this author...

  • A Hero's Quest - in Multiples

All of the characters in this book are so real and fascinating in how they think and respond to their lives. Every character in the book is flawed, and every character is a hero - each in their own way. On the surface they are all living relatively normal lives with some dysfunctional additions. It only takes one neighborhood BBQ to catalyze changes - and heroism - in each of their lives. Great story and very well written - strongly recommended.
