    Five star Read

Unmask Me If You Can is my favorite book in Shana Galen’s Survivor series. It’s an emotional story filled with fabulously written characters, great dialogue, romance and intrigue. Jasper Grantham was a member of Draven’s dozen, an elite group of men who fought in the Peninsular War. Draven’s troop was given the most dangerous assignments. Jasper was badly burned when he ran back into a burning building to save a member of his troop. He wears a mask to cover the burns. Olivia Carlisle was betrothed to the powerful, violent Duke of Withernsea. Olivia disappeared from her home and society before they were married. Lord Carlisle has hired Jasper to find Olivia because her mother is dying. Olivia’s son finds an injured Jasper on the path leading to their remote cottage. The couple forms a tenuous bond during a three- day rainstorm. They are attracted to each other but each has a lot of issues to overcome. Shana Galen made an excellent plot choice when she compared Jasper’s visible wounds versus Olivia’s emotional wounds throughout the novel. This decision drew me into the characters and their story and made for an excellent read. The romance between Jasper and Olivia is fabulously written. Loved that Jasper understood that he could be loved for himself; a loyal, brave loving man. He realizes that his scars don’t define him. They are invisible to those who love him. Olivia learns to trust Jasper and is able to overcome her own fears. Loved the honest dialogue between the couple. Olivia is a survivor but, she falls back into the complacent daughter role when she returns home until Withersea shows his true colors. The last few chapters are suspenseful and kept me guessing. Loved the intrigue threaded throughout the novel and the unmasking of the villains in the story. Unmask Me If You Can has all the feels—great characters, sizzling romance and suspenseful plot. And the teaser about Draven was perfectly executed—I can’t wait for the next book in Shana Galen’s Survivor Series!

    4.5-5 Stars!!!

4.5-5 Stars!! This book is great! It’s the 4th book in the series but can be read as a standalone. I’ve read the 1st book in the series ‘Third Son’s a Charm’ but missed the next 2 books & it was still great! I have a lot of scars myself, so I kind of understand what it’s like, even though most of my scars are under my clothes. Reading this book, you can’t help but feel for the characters & everything that they have been through, it doesn’t matter that they are fictional. It really is a great read & I enjoyed reading it! It must have really sucked to be a woman back in this time! I can’t help but be angry at how women were treated back than! I loved both of the main characters, Jasper & Olivia-they were perfect for each other! They were strong, independent & had to overcome a lot in life. Although they are works of fiction, they are very inspirational! I definitely recommend this book as I truly enjoyed reading it! *I received this book to read & review at no charge & I gave my honest opinion.*

    delightful and suspenseful historical romance

I always enjoy Shana Galen's Historical Romances, so when I was offered a review copy of this book I jumped on it. I encountered Jasper in An Affair with a Spare and he was a very intriguing character. So I was happy to discover he is the hero in this book. He is scarred by the war, both physically and mentally, although he isn't really aware of the last. He's become jaded, although he keep to his strong code of honor. And then there's Olivia. She is scarred mentally as well. She had enough sense to run away from those that would hurt her and her son, but she's so busy with protecting her son from harm, she doesn't really realize how lonely she is. The first half of the book Jasper and Olivia get to know each other and both have to get over some of their deepest fears. I loved seeing the both of them grow and start to trust each other. Olivia's son was a nice addition. I usually don't care for children in romances, but Richard is a cute and inquisitive kid. The second half of the book there is more suspense and danger for the three of them. I rooted for Jasper and Olivia to realize what they felt for each other and for them to be able to face their demons and beat them. I couldn't put the book down. I had to see them overcome their problems and find their happy end. All in all this is a delightful and suspenseful romance and you bet it won't be the last book by Shana Galen I'll read.

    I Loved It!

I loved this book! I expected to like it, but I was not prepared for the depth of this story or how it would touch my heart. This is a historical story that is appropriate for it's Regency setting while also seeming particularly relevant for contemporary times. I adored the element of female characters standing up for and supporting each other. I also loved the main characters, Jasper and Olivia. I think one of the things that made this book unique was that it was set at first outside of London and away from the town, which was refreshing and a natural way for Jasper and Olivia to develop a relationship. The story did eventually move to London, providing some familiar Regency elements such as balls and dukes and special marriage licenses. This was a book that allowed me to sink in and lose myself in the story. The dialogue was natural and the story was so intriguing and easy to read. Although this is the fourth book in the series it can easily be read as a standalone. I highly recommend this book!

    Jasper's Happily Ever After

Yay. Jasper's HEA. We see Jasper as a side character in the previous novels in this series. The heroine is a rape survivor who has managed to make a life for herself. The rape is handled well although it is in the past so not as emotionally jarring as it might be. The heroine is given some emotional issues from the rape instead of just glossing over it. There are several plot twists that help move the book along. I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
