    Loved this sequel!

I really enjoyed this sequel to Moribund. Aldebaran and Fiann are the villains you love to hate! I also enjoyed getting to see more from some of the side characters, like Lennon and Prudence. It feels like there's a lot more story to come with them in future books. The pacing was quick, with plenty of fun dialogue, and of course some angsty teen romance. This is definitely not a Sophomore slump! I can't wait for book #3.

    A little dismayed

I received a free copy of this book with the option of sharing a review. After reading the first book, I was really looking forward to learning more about the Dark and Light Fae and watching Syl and Euphoria mature a bit but the author had other plans. After the events that took place in Moribund, one would think that the girls would get a little bit of a break to build their relationship. Regrettably, it's not in the cards for these two as the events that Aggravaine put into motion during the previous school year are still playing out, even though he's dead. So, it's no surprise that Syl's former friend and current mean girl, Fiann, has somehow managed to get out of whatever in-patient psychiatric facility she was stuck in to wreak havoc. I was a little disappointed by this. It is a trope that has been played out in so many YA novels and television series. This second novel would've been a great opportunity to take a break from the action, develop Syl and Euphoria as characters, learn more about the abilities of the Fae, to introduce readers to the worlds and politics of both Fae factions, and set up Fiann's return. Instead, the action continues as if the girls didn't defeat Aggravaine and our only introduction to the Light Fae is an ass of a prince who sides with Fiann in an attempt to blackmail Syl into becoming his mate. The banter between Syl and Fiann is still an incredibly appealing combination of witty and nerdy with hints of pop culture references thrown in. I also liked that GIE continued to normalize homosexuality in the plot because the romance between the two protagonists feels like a cute teenage romance. I am feeling a bit torn between the disappointment and curiosity because the potential of the plot seems to be unrealized, but it is possible that it could be realized later in the series. I think the series might appeal to a young adult crowd, but those of us who are a bit older and grew up watching Teen/YA series like Buffy and Angel might find it less appealing. As someone who defended the first book in my review, I am more than a little dismayed by the direction the series seems to be going in thus far.
