The Boy I Grew Up With, a intense read

After reading Crew, book one in this series I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next one. While Crew was Bren's story, The Boy I Grew Up With tells Heather and Channing's story aaaand there are cross-overs to Fallen Crest , Sam, Logan and Mason- Yay. Heather Jax is a character that had me in knots. In Fallen Crest Series she wasn't my favorite character. She's too. Too independent, too prickly, too bitter. And now I learned why. Heather and Channing are friends first and foremost, lovers at a second. They know each other since forever, are very close and their story starts over a Trapper Keeper. They're living in different worlds - her in Fallen Crest with his milllionaires, Channing Monroe in Roussou and with their criminals. He's the leader of his own crew, is tangled up in underground fighting, some illegal business, violence. He's a hard man who cares foremost for his crew, then his sister and at the third place is Heather. Heather is tired and disappointed by Channing, feels left out, left behind. They have their upheavals, peaks and downfalls, again and again, break up, can't stay away, make up. Seems like they're toxic fior each other. Actions are easy, feelings difficult. The Boy I Grew Up With is a story that gave me all the feels. I laughed, I cried and at some point I was angry at the characters. I read the book a few days ago and had to stew a few days till I could write this review. I repeat, Heather wasn't my favorite person and still isn't. But her story captivated me from the beginning and I couldn't not read the book. I had to know what happens to her and Channing, Bren and her crew. The Boy I Grew Up With contains a bonus chapter of the Fallen Crest family and I greatly, greatly enjoyed reading about them. I recommend the book and give 5 stars.

    an amazing read

The Boy I Grew Up With is gripping, emotionally raw, and full of heartbreak, undying love, suspense, and some seriously hot chemistry! It is the story of Heather and Channing who were characters were in this author’s Fallen Crest High series (this takes place after this series) and they were also in Crew, but don’t think that you know their story based off those books! While these two were featured in the other books, I do believe that you could get away with reading this as a standalone, but I do recommend starting with the FCH series. What an amazing book! This is perhaps my favorite book by Tijan. Heather and Channing have the most amazing love and their journey is full of ups and downs. They have been through so much and even during the times when their relationship was off again, they still had that intense connection and undying loyalty as friends and lovers. Appropriately, this book is told from a dual POV as I really enjoyed getting to see into the minds of both Channing and Heather. Heather was a totally hardcore heroine. She was strong and didn’t put up with anyone’s nonsense. Channing is a charismatic, caring, and loyal to a fault to his sister, his crew, and Heather. While both characters displayed great strength, they also had that vulnerability about them which made me love the more. The author does a great job showing how their relationship evolved over the years. She has flashbacks interspersed throughout the book, some of which had me laughing and others having my heart break. I also enjoyed getting to learn more about the background of the crew. The Boy I Grew Up will put you through all the feels. This is a great entertaining read with an engaging and unique storyline; well developed characters; and moves at a good pace. The epilogue is fantastic! For the FCH fans, Sam and Mason are briefly mentioned periodically throughout the book, but they do not have a prominent role. Thankfully, the author includes a bonus scene about them. I received this book as an ARC and I voluntarily leave this review.

    Love

What can I say about The Boy I Grew Up With is love strong that it fills you strength you never knew you had. Their love stood the test of time because they were each other's anchor in life through it all. But they were also toxic to each other but not always in a bad way. I loved it.

    Wow! Just wow!

I've been so looking forward to this book and I have not been disappointed in the least! I loved Heather & Channing in the FCH books but knowing them as I do now.... *sigh* Two personalities; each so strong, so confident, so loving and loyal... yet the cards they were dealt, meant life's hurdles had to be crossed before their lives could truly come together. Some authors try to write a book where life and circumstances constant come between the characters and more often than not, they miss the mark... Not with book! This book is so well written, the love pain Heather & Channing go through, pour out from the pages. Each chapter is a rollercoaster for the reader; you can see the rises coming, the drops that you know that will make your jaw clench but you know you're loving ever second of it! Personally, I think this is Tijan's best book EVER... and that's saying a lot considering how much I love her other books! The Boy I Grew Up With, will stay with you long after you turn the last page.
