Recieved a free ARC in exchange for a honest revie

This book is definitely different from other books out there. It takes the whole "averge girl finds out she's not so average after all" story line and flips it. In this story, Sora, who is a Kami princess finds out she is only human. All her incredible powers were only borrowed. The true Kami princess is currently living with Sora's real parents in Tokyo. I loved the character Keiji! He's funny and brave and just an awkward teenager ;) What I didn't like was how part of the ending felt a bit rushed and too good to be true...still it was a great read! If you're looking for new mythology to dive into this will introduce you to the magical world of Kami!! The characters are fun and easy to like! Happy reading! Elsa M.

Fun mix of ancient and contemporary culture

This book immediately immerses the reader into action and adventure in both a modern Japanese society and an ancient, unseen society. Both ancient and modern times clash throughout this book, never letting the excitement or suspense drop. So much is at stake for the world's survival and only a chosen few are tasked with saving the world. The characters are well drawn and the setting becomes a 3D place for the reader. Friendship, loyalty, family, and a bit of romance make this book fun to read. There are a few descriptive battle scenes which keep this from being a "light-hearted" read, but serve this story's authenticity.

The chosen one with a twist

Do you need to know anything else?? You do? Well, in that case, let me tell you this book not only puts a twist on such a classic YA trope, but also does it in an incredibly polished fashion. This is such a neat little book! Sure, it has a few little flaws, but that's probably me just being picky, so maybe pay me no heed in this?

    Different... but GOOD

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I had never before read Megan Crewe’s work, but was intrigued by the potential gleaned in this book’s premise. I mean, how often had I read a story where the heroine found out she Didn’t have powers? When had I come across a story full of Japanese mythological beings? Never. And never. I loved the freshness it brought to a genre I like so much. The singular otherworldliness it gave a story full of action, danger, uncertainty for the future, and great characters in a race against time. Characters whose growth and plights I loved to witness and felt keenly, especially Sora's shock and disappointment at not being kami. It was a believable story in the un-believability inherent to any paranormal world. It kept me turning pages; sometimes for way longer than I’d initially planned on doing. And though I was not surprised with some of the twists, it was a journey I enjoyed immensely. As for the art cover? Well, the author says it captured Sora exactly as she envisioned her. I say it definitely helped set the mood and the visual for the entire time I lost myself in that world. A few of the characters' actions, (or lack of it,) had me wondering, though. Yet after a little reasoning they stopped bothering me. Except for the (final) one, which I just wasn't able to reason away.

Great Story. Megan Crewe made it exceptional

I don’t often give a book 5 star, but in this instance my heart is now singing with hope, when minutes ago My eyes were filled with tears. That is how much this excellent storyline affected me. Anyone can make up a story, but to have the skill, to translate that into a book, that can make you feel every emotion known, to keep your attention from slipping away, to make you really want to keep those pages turning must be a gifted author. The places the story travelled to felt so real, the descriptions made me feel safe, scared, worried but never once distracted from the storyline. To me there was a main character who even though was heartbroken, she was able to look deep into herself and have her perception and realisation change slowly but profoundly. Alongside her the other characters that stuck with her through the whole book was just as important to the main star, without them the storyline wouldn’t of worked. You will also find ghosts, demon, ogres, phrophecys, magic, which I will admit can be a common thing in fantasy / paranormal books. But the way they was used the book yourself. I think I feel so strongly about this review because I have just finished the book and started this review in my next breath, so all my emotions are still invested in the story. I think when you leave it a few days you lose that feeling and just no it was a good book. It felt like Megan Crewe put her heart and soul In this book, so thank you for taking me away from reality and remembering what us humans have how belief in ourselves can change so much. If you like books that have batottles, enduranceGreat Sto, love, betrayal, belief, loyalty, grief, nearly every magical creature, sages and heartbreak then I recommend this book. Give it ago, it has a great storyline, but the writing makes it exceptional
