    Fantastic!

Copy received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I am all for giving new authors a change and when the email from NetGalley said fans of Hockey books I was hooked. There is not alot of hockey in this book, which is fine by me - it is the story of Aud, a 20 year old girl brought up by her grandparents who get a month long job to be a translator for an up and coming Russian Hockey Star. It is a definite YA book - but I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more from Sophia, although I hope it is not Pavel next - I did not like his character at all...

    Awesome

An exciting NA that had me from the beginning! Loved the writing style, the characters, and the unique setting for this story. Not the typical college campus! After losing her soccer scholarship, Auden Berezin needs cash! To earn enough for her tuition, she takes a job as a translator for a Russian hockey player. Problem is, he speaks English just fine so why does he need her?? Aleksandr Varenkov can't stand dealing with the media. To avoid this he pretends not to speak English hence the need for a translator. Seems like a great plan until attraction and desire come into play. This is one I highly recommend!

3.5 stars ok book but reads more like a YA book

Delayed Penalty is a decent start to Sophia Henry's new Pilots Hockey series. I wouldn't say it was one of my favorite "sports" based books but it is a good read. Auden Berezin life has been a series of losses. Shewas raised by her Russian grandparents after losing her mother and now her life takes another horrible turn when she loses her soccer scholarship for college. These loses help contribute to her lack of self esteem and worth. When her grandfather is able to get her a translating for a Russian hockey player Auden is sure things have turned around until she meets Alexandr, the same guy who tried to pick her up in a bar! After losing everything she has cared about Auden is not about to open her self up to more heartache and that is all she would find with a man like Alexandr. Alexandr Varenkov is passionate about three things: hockey, vodka and women. Known as a ladies man, Alexandr is pleased to find that Auden has been assigend to translate for him when he speaks to the press. Alexandr does not like speaking to the press so he fakes not understanding English to avoid speaking with the press which puts Auden on the spot. After spending time together the both come to realize they actually enjoy spending time together but Auden is afraid maybe she is enjoying their time together too much. After all, everyone in her life eventually leaves her and she knows that Alexandr will only be in Detroit until he can be spotted and recruited into the NHL. Aleksandr soon realizes his days of playing the field has come to and end. He found what he is looking for in Auden if only he can convince her that they belong together and that he isn't leaving her. Stress, secrets and betrayal makes this for a roller coaster ride to romance. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes YA romance. While this book is considered to be a NA romance it just seems to be more on the lines of a YA. I liked the basis of the story but felt that is could have been better. I received an eARC copy of the book compliments of the publisher and Tasty Book Tours for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.

    Wonderful Loving Story

I love hockey stories and this one was no different. The characters bring you into their story and never let you go. A sweet love story. A story that makes your heart beat faster with every page you read.

Great story but too many unanswered questions.

Hockey season is over and while legions of fans wait for it to come back, many readers like me prefer to get our fixes in the pages of a sports romances. Delayed Penalty is the first book in the Pilots Hockey series and it features a sexy Russian and his translator. It's a great way to pass some time. Auden is home for the summer. She's reeling from being cut from the soccer team and losing her sorts scholarship. Finding out her grandfather has a job lined up for her is a blessing, until she realizes who she's working with. Her initial meeting with Aleksandr didn't really go well. Of course their follow up interactions sort of continue in the same vein and it doesn't help she's attracted to him either. I liked Auden for the most part. She's not afraid to work hard. She takes her responsibilities seriously. She's trying to find a way to make it in the world, but she's still unsure of herself. I could really relate to that. Aleksandr didn't make the greatest first impression. He eventually grew on me and I came to like him as well. It was very evident the two of them had chemistry. I was a little surprised when they just started making out. It just seemed sudden when before they'd been dancing around each other. The story is really interesting. I thought it was going to be mainly about Auden and Aleksandr, but then things started happening in the story that sort of shifted my focus away from them. I felt like there was too much going on and as a result the different parts of the story weren't given the development they needed. I had too many questions once I finished reading. I also got frustrated with Auden. She was quick to voice her opinion but slow to act, in particular when it came to things she didn't like. I felt like she brushed too many things under the rug. I'm a champion at avoiding things, but it felt like she could out do even me. There was a lot of potential to the story. I'm hoping the next book in the series will clear up my remaining questions.
