    interesting book

I enjoyed the setting for the novel.....ie Melbourne. It was as if Tsiolkas was writing from his own experience being picked on at high school for bring different. I wasn't expecting his writings on homosexuality but it fitted with the story line. Danny was a little too strange and unbelievable at times...Overall a good read

    Beautifully written, but...

OK - bad bit first (in my opinion) very graphic sex scenes really don't add much to the book, in fact, it detracts from what is an extremely accomplished novel. Superbly written characters carefully stripping emotions piece by piece until we see the core in all its human frailty. Recommended.

    Where was it going?

The book was fairly interesting however towards the end I was wondering where it was going. The ending was fairly inconclusive. The main character seemed pretty angry with everything and everybody in his life. To me he seemed quite privileged. I didn't have much empathy with him.
