    Really intriguing!

I had to push through the first page, the voice of Mary with her uneducated speech was a bit annoying first and I thought that a whole bok on the first person with that grammar would spoil the enjoyment, but once through that first page, I couldn't put it down! Told through alternate voices, Mary and Morgan are young women in their late teens living on a remote island. Mary lives with her father and brother making a living on trading her broideries with the tall men, traders from a less primitive land across the sea. Morgan is living a Cinderella existence with her parents, Cinderella before the ball , cooking and cleaning and trapped in the house after being brought there by her parents years before. Boys begin disappearing from the island, one being Mary's brother Barney and Morgan seeks to leave the house where she is held prisoner and these two events lead the gilts to uncover secrets and sinister truths. Jess Richards revealed history in little leases and snatches, the islanders seem to be living some sort of primitive life from past centuries but the traders spoke of the broideries being suitable mobile phone pouches. The mythology and mysteries of the island are interwoven into the story further exposing the mysterious events. A lot is left unsaid, to be guessed at by the reader. This won't be to everyone's taste, but if you enjoy fantasies or mysteries, it is a unique story that is worth persisting with
