    A lovely tale

A delightful and beautifully written tale which was a demonstration of the resolve of the subject person to adapt to circumstances. A marked change from the usual sex and violence story prevalent today. A book, that can be read in one go or at any pace desired

    A Russian tale

This proved to be a comfortable read, a delightful story of resilience and resourcefulness. Having visited Moscow in the 1970's and personally experienced the pervasive sense of caution of that time, I enjoyed this story which moves from the Revolution through to Khrushchev's time weaving social history into the novel.

    Worth the investment

Amor Towles' writing is as clever as always. You will find yourself silently cheering for the character of this gentleman, as he stares down bullies and adapts to a new way of life.

    A gentle tale

A beautifully written tale of Count Rostov and the incidents in his life while under house arrest within a hotel. The lovely characters who work in the hotel and the impact they have on the Count and vice versa are wonderfully descibed. The book also depicts life after the Russian revolution so well that you are transported to that time and place. A feel good novel that will stay with me.

    Charming tale

My favorite book this decade. The prose is poetic and reflective, the characters are charming and the story brings much joy.
