All you need is a little time...

It was the film that drove me to read this (edge of tomorrow). I have to say that although it's quite different in places the theme of Live, Die, Repeat is captured quite brilliantly. The story has a nice pace, and the author's style is very catchy. If I had a complaint it would be that it was all over too quickly, perhaps that's just because I enjoyed it though and wanted it to keep repeating...

    Fast Paced Awesomeness

If you like Japanese sci-fi, this book is guaranteed to tickle your fantasy. For those who've already seen the film...read it anyways. As always, the book is better.

Groundhog Day meets Catcher In The Rye meets Platoon meets Starcraft. This book screams out one word all throughout: MOVIE. I picked this up when I found out that Tom Cruise was making it (can't say the same for Jack Reacher). You either hate or love Tom as an actor or a person, but one thing is is undeniable: he is an excellent filmmaker. He produces quality films and works with renowned directors. So it was more than enough to spark my curiosity. What a perfectly-crafted novel. Sakurazaka skitters through the tech jargon and pushes the action forward and forward. I had my apprehensions about the time-travel/loop theme but each doubt was addressed. It was obvious that the author gave some serious thought to questions readers would ask. And he succeeds in confronting all of them. In the 3rd of 4 chapters, he veers away from the first-person perspective and switches to 3rd person. Though I found it a bit off, it was understandable why it had to be done to keep the story and build-up intact. For non-fans of sci-fi, not to worry. The novel doesn't focus too much on it. All the anime elements you need to know are their mech suits and Mimics (their bionic foes). It's more of an action book with a little humor and a large dose of rooting-for-the-protagonist moments. And...you gotta love the twists! Yes that's twist with an "s". I am sure this isn't the type of book a book club would discuss, but it would definitely be a book that everyone would want to see on the big screen. Unless you let George Lucas produce and direct it, there's absolutely no way you can screw up the movie. $19.00 for a 200-page novel is only my complaint. Do Japanese publishers charge more?! I'd be royally pissed if the price goes down when the movie comes out in 2014. Dear FullyBooked, please explain the price hike. All that being said...I still don't know why the title is grammatically wrong. Sidenotes: I was surprised and delighted to find out that Bill Paxton was going to be part of the movie version. I specifically had him in mind while reading the book! Emily Blunt (who SHOULD have been Black Widow in the Marvel Universe. Awww!) is going to play action-hero and, after almost not recognizing her in Looper, I believe she's going to be an amazing Full Metal Bitch (one of the main characters in the book).

    Excellent book

I really liked the movie and then I read this and I like it too. Very visceral and well-thought out.
