  • Dark and brilliant conclusion.

The final chapter in Pierce and John’s fight with the furies. The story picks up where the last book left off: Pierce and her friends swept back to the underworld to flee the furies. I know a lot of people don’t like cliffhangers, but this trilogy was written in a certain style: Pierce’s thoughts running from one time to another, figuring things out as she goes. The three books happen in a few days which means that the cliffhangers didn’t bother me much – I knew that it was part of Pierce’s character and story to have the first two books end in cliffhangers because she is barely hanging on herself. What I liked most about this book is that Pierce has fully become who she was meant to be and took the fight to the furies, beating them in a way that only she could. And, of course, the action in this book kept me turning pages well after I should’ve. I liked the symbolism of the hurricane raging as the storm in the underworld matched it bolt for bolt. And though I felt that losing and finding John and everything surrounding that drama happened a little too fast, splitting this book into two wouldn’t have made any one of the readers who disliked the previous cliffhangers too happy (though I’d have loved to stay in their world a bit longer). A thrilling end to this dark reimagining of the Persephone myth – well worth reading if you like ancient myths and your Young Adult books a little darker.

    Thanks for your feedback!
