  • Heart hammering fiction!

What a tense and exciting detective novel and it’s set during my favourite time of the year, Halloween. I loved the stormy weather, mist and pumpkins. They added a sinister backdrop to the most heinous of murders taking place in Black Rock, Montana. This brings me onto the location. I can only imagine a place as splendid as this but I got a real picture of it in my head. I loved the streets, the woodland and the cafe. I really enjoyed Jenna’s character and that opening... what an explosion of action. I found myself instantly hooked especially as the dangers ramped up. I loved the use of the horses, and the bloodhound was adorable. The relationship between David and Jenna was a real treat too. I took to the crime fighting duo with ease. Gripped by the each of the main characters chapters, I found myself rooting for them throughout. As for the investigation, the chapters with the inmate were a nail-biting treat. Such great cat and mouse interplay, and psychologically intense too. This was my first Kane and Alton read and I felt more than happy that it could be enjoyed as a stand-alone even though there are earlier books in the series. The ending was an absolute heart hammering cracker, and if you love detective fiction, ‘Cross My Heart’ is a must read!

  • A cracking crime thriller

It's nearing Halloween in Black Rock Falls and Detectives Kane and Alton are back, and this time they're hunting a killer whose kills make no real sense, except that they are eerily similar to someone else's. But that person is behind bars, isn't he? Yet, when Sheriff Jenna Alton is targeted and more bodies appear, Jenna is sure he's out and looking for revenge. But her team and especially her closest colleague and friend, Detective Dave Kane isn't so sure and is prepared to do anything to keep Jenna focused on the present and not on the past. And with brilliant pacing, twists galore, and an ending I did not see coming CROSS MY HEART was a cracking crime thriller, that I happily stayed up far too late reading. Would recommend. **I was kindly provided with an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

  • Page Turner

Halloween or Groundhog Day?? Another great instalment in the Detectives Kane and Alton series. Even though is this book 12, you can totally read this as a standalone, but be warned that you want to go back. Halloween is fast approaching as Sherriff Jenna Alton’s home is invaded and it gives her a sense of déjà vu, then a body is found and she again she sees similarities to a previous case. Is she seeing things that are not there? Page turner from the start!

  • Another enjoyable crime story

While Kane is away, Sheriff Alton is under attack in her home. Later a body of a male is discovered in the woods. Soon there are more dead to find. Each time a witness comes forward but are they as innocent as they say. Is there another serial killer or killers in the area. What is the connection to convicted serial killer Stone. Are coincidences just that. Another entertaining well-written mystery with its cast of very likeable characters. A good addition to the series.

  • Rocking Thriller w/Heartcheck

I was home alone when I read the first chapter, and I will never do that again when I read a D.K. Hood novel. I should know better I have read or listened to the all in this series. This certainly can be read as a stand alone, but I say invest in yourself and read the entire series. Get to know each of the characters and the little things that come out along the way. This was a fast read full of suspense, mystery, a rocking good thriller. I love the way D.K. Hood addressed the premise of this series, killers in small town of Black Rock Falls. Such a treat to come back to Black Rock Falls as I have become invested in all the characters and I know that I will be reading with my feet in my chair, no touching the floor, with the lights on and making sure my fur babies are with me. Thank you for the true entertainment you provide, and of course the heart check each book provides! Thank you for the arc, DK Hood, Bookouture and Netgalley, I freely share my thoughts an opinions, unsolicited.
