    Thanks for your feedback!

    Great book, highly recommended

I almost jumped for joy when I saw this book had come out, and I was not disappointed after finishing it! Great characters, although I find Amber to be a bit "meh" when it came down to fighting but still was a badass all the same. 100/100 Stars

This is my first Derek Landy book.

I am Reviewing this also for the Publisher Harper Collins NZ, this means my own signed copy will stay Pristine. OK thats explained my weird roundabout way of explaining I own this and are reviewing it for the publisher too! What did I think of the Blurb - well it hooked me into buying it (OK the cheap price also had a huge pull, plus the nice shiny gold cover!) Did I find it witty? Well yes - the plot has too much death and gore to be a comedy but the banter between the characters had its moments. Was it action packed - Gosh yes! from chapter two we realise something is not quite right with Amber, and it seems that things are going to go downhill from that moment on. What did the book remind me of - Well a lot of you have probably made the same connection - but this is very similar to one of my FAVE!! TV shows Supernatural... Sigh... and lol my favourite character in the book was Milo, or well actually maybe the car!!!! (Can a Car be a favourite character?) well she was. 1970 Dodge Charger - the ghost of the highway But then I do tend to have a soft spot for American Muscle Cars - thanks to Supernatural, Vin Diesel in FF films lol... anyhow our Car has a little bit more under its hood, and comes in handy on the road - but you will have to read the book to find out more. Milo is our Bodyguard/Taxi outa trouble for our Main Character Amber, and we don't really get to find out much about our mysterious driver. But he is determined to save Amber from the fate that is chasing her. Now onto Amber - well to be honest, she took a long while to connect with, I am unsure on why Authors want to create a character to be so whiny and naive and at times DUMB! I do not know whether it is because I am a brit and our teenagers tend to grow up faster, but heck some of the situations she gets into had me rolling my eyes and thinking why were you so stupid - sorry to sound vague but I do not do spoilers. But anyway thankfully she begins to slowly grow from her experiences and by the end of the book she has become a character that I want to know more, and that is after all what an author wants of his readers. Onto our other characters - Glen is the other main cohort on the journey on the Demon Road, this Irish lad must be the most unluckiest and daft on the planet, he ends up getting into as many scrapes as Amber, but he does come handy once or twice. The baddies - The Shining Demon is the central figure in the Demon factor and his lower demons are chasing after Amber and her crew, Amber ends up making a deal with him, and on that quest the 3 come across Vampires, Witches, and Serial killers. Now onto what I did not like - I didn't like the way the author has created dialogue where Amber is ridiculed, and slighted for her looks - words like 'Fugly' (gosh that one really annoys me) and 'Troll' were used a number of times, and also how Amber in Demon form is described as 'Stacked' 'Beautiful' now I know this book is aimed at Teenagers/YA - but come on why are we still stereotyping our female characters to be like this? its lazy and so predictable. OK in Human form she would be weaker, but couldn't she have been Smart, clued and when she was a Demon she could have been Arrogant, cocky quick to fire up... WHY oh WHY does Looks have to come into it? I want my granddaughter to feel she is MORE than LOOKS - so come on Authors start creating characters for girls to look up to where LOOKS are not the focal issue. Overall this book has kept me glued to the pages as I followed Amber on her quest/Journey and the sneak peak into Book 2 Desolation which out on ebook but I will possibly save up for the Hardback version for my shelf!

    Demon road

A fantastic, fast paced page turner. A completely different style to the skullduggery pleasant books but with a similar witty humour and deep, believable characters. A must read for any skullduggery fan.
