  • A good read

The writer does a good job developing her characters and settings. This book is definitely NOT for the squeamish or faint of heart. There is a lot of descriptive blood and gore; and hedonistic rituals. I'm a nurse and admit that I had to skip through some of the blood/gore scenes because it was stomach turning; just too much for me. Otherwise this is a very good novel.

  • Not the best book I've read

This is the first novel that I've read by this author. It was extremely macabre and in parts, even stomach churning. I work in the medical field and I've never come across something that makes me want to vomit, but this book gave me that feeling a few times. The main premise of the book was the display of dead and dissected bodies, as art. The author tends to ramble and go on for pages with descriptions of what the bodies looked like, how the process was done, and even the process of it being done. It became so tedious and monotonous that I found myself more than skimming through sections of the book because my eyes were glazing over. Plus the story was all over the place and towards the end, it seemed like the author just gave up and decided to rush through the story rather than taking the time to properly develop the story to a final conclusion. The book is only 233 pages in length, but I've been struggling to read it for over a week. Normally a book this size would take me an evening or two to read. Not the best book I've ever read. Unfortunately not a book I would recommend.

  • Suspenseful and Disturbing

This amazing thriller is as disturbing as it is suspenseful, with well-crafted characters and a solid fast-moving plotline that thrusts the reader breathlessly to the last page. The novel is definitely not for the faint of heart, but is yet more evidence that Penn is a suburb thriller author who is not afraid to peer into the deep dark shadows of humanity.
