  • Old men tell good stories too

As good a rebus story as ever, but very happy to see Malcolm Fox become a regular. A whole new level of intrigue occurs when the pace is lifted by the wise old keeper of many truths.

  • Same old...

The book has a weary feel to it. Too much rhasing of previous Rebus novels. Same old dynamics. Same old friends and foes skirting around a plot that didn't seem to be central to the evolution of story that felt like collage of previous Rebus novels. Time for a change Ian, please.

  • Rankin still the master

Is he setting up for Clarke to take over the lead role.

  • Gripping

I think this must be the best book in all the ones of Rebus I have read. Gripping from start to finish.

  • A good addition to an excellent franchise.

It's been a while since I read about Rebus and his cohorts and this was a very satisfying reunion. Broad range of interesting characters, the usual taut writing style and, clearly, a policeman's lot is still not a happy one but the good ones keep at it.

    Thanks for your feedback!
