  • Three and a half

Three and a half This collection of short stories from three very popular authors gives romance readers a touch of the modern West . Each one also features a canine companion although having said that the title also overtly describes these leading men who are all most definitely hero material. Colorado Cowboy by Diana Palmer This story is about Esther who saw her mother murdered and ran for her life. She winds up practically penniless , with no real idea who to turn to but luckily for her lonely Butch is more than happy to offer her somewhere safe for the night. This sadly was definitely not my favourite and although I don’t read a lot of contemporary cowboy style romance this just felt very old fashioned. I particularly disliked the TSTL Esther as she felt like a caricature that just constantly repeated herself. For me this was 2 stars The Wolf on her Doorstep by Kate Pearce This had a divorced woman struggling to raise two teenage boys so instantly caught my interest. Beth has gone through a lot in her life and now helps out at a nearby ranch that rents out cabins. When she checks on the very grumpy renter Conner she discovers he’s hurt and does what she can to help. It’s just too bad that what is going on at home is going to bring back a past she wants to forget ! I liked this couple and although it’s short it didn’t rush any declarations of love and rather acknowledged that the couple shared a mutual attraction that could hopefully lead to a happy ever after. Plus the plot was slightly emotional as Beth came to terms with her role as a mother in an ever changing world. This was a solid 3 and would have been more if it had been a longer, more drawn out story. Rescue: Cowboy Style by Rebecca Zanetti Trent and his “brothers “ are ex forces ( and a whole lot more if I’m honest ) who are trying to settle into civilian life . When a young womans car breaks down near their club house Trent feels compelled to help her . However Hallie isn’t exactly being honest about what she is up to which definitely intrigues Trent and arouses all his protective instincts. If you enjoy MC type characters then I think this story will appeal because these guys definitely feel like those type of “brothers “ . I will admit Trent is way over the top Alpha and the word bossy just doesn’t begin to describe him but it works here because one, it’s short and two, added so much sexual tension ! Hallie is conflicted, desperate to protect the cowboys and I could understand her motivation although if she had ever read a romance novel surely she would have spotted obvious signs that these are definitely not the average ranch hands ! So whilst not particularly lengthy we get romance, suspense and even a little action but for this reader the fun was in the guys and how they just fit together and I’d love to read more about them. This is my favourite of the three stories so a 4 This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

  • A great addition to the Morgan Valley world

I requested a copy of this book for review because of Kate Pearce’s story, The Wolf on Her Doorstep. My review and rating is based solely on that book. However, I’ve read several books by the other two authors so I’m looking forward to reading their stories at a later time. I’ve read all of the books in the Morgan Ranch/Millers of Morgan Valley series and I’ve enjoyed all of them very much. The Wolf on Her Doorstep is a short-ish novella and a very quick read so there’s not a lot of time for character development or romance. Conner is retired military who survived a oil refinery blowing up. I was actually kind of pleased that this story didn’t dwell too much on Conner’s issues as a veteran as this was a change from the usual retired military trope. Beth and her young adult sons are survivors of domestic abuse. She has a few different jobs, one of which is looking after the cabin where Conner is spending the summer. For such a short book, Kate Pearce really packs a lot into the story. Beth and Conner have a one-night encounter when she visits his cabin and finds him with a fever and an infected leg. After those things are taken care of, they share a night of uncomplicated sex. Later Conner helps Beth when one of her sons goes to visit his father in prison. Things happen very quickly in this story, which is necessary due to its short length, but I love to read these because they can act as a palate cleanser in between reading much longer books. I’m looking forward to reading more books set in the Morgan Valley world. A review copy was provided by the publisher via NetGalley but this did not influence my opinion or rating of the book.

  • A guy and his wolf

A guy and his wolf.... That is, until these three bachelors and their wolf meets his lady match. I do so enjoy when these ladies do a bundle like Lone Wolf. I especially liked the theme of each of the men having a wolf and how the addition of a female makes a pack. Recommend. 4.5

  • Lots of Cowboys!

Colorado Cowboy...Esther and Butch meet when he finds Esther right outside his cabin, in the snow. He brings her inside and helps her get dry and warm and the romance builds from there. A sweet story, with its very own wolf! A lovely romance by Diana Palmer. The Wolf on Her Doorstep...Beth isn't even sure she likes the cranky Conner, but that doesn't stop her from helping him when he's sick. Beth is wary of relationships, but she and Conner find their way to each other and fall in love. Conner's pet wolf doesn't go around many people, but he seems to be looking out for Beth! You don't want to miss this book by Kate Pearce. Rescue: Cowboy Style...Trent Logan...a man's man...a hunky cowboy. When Hallie practically falls in his lap, well, he decides he's keeping her! In true Rebecca Zanetti style, there's intrigue, romance and of course love! You are going to love this story by the incomparable Rebecca Zanetti!

  • Lone Wolf

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it. I love this collection of stories from this wonderful group of authors. I adored each of the stories. I normally try to leave a review for each story but I wasn’t feeling well while I was reading so I didn’t leave myself any notes. These three authors are my favorites. They write stories that you just get lost in. Even when sick, I really hated to stop reading! I become enchanted with each story. I would highly recommend this book of 3 stories.
