    Enjoyable warm-hearted novel

An enjoyable warm-hearted novel set in a declining small town in the fens in the weeks up to Christmas. Ruby has dropped out of a higher degree course and takes a job looking after a food and craft stall in the town market. Her father seems a lot less than chuffed. She is unable to avoid the boyfriend, Steve, with whom she split up in tragic circumstances just before she went to university. The romance side of the plot is on fairly conventional lines. What makes the novel enjoyable is the way it conveys the sense of close-knit life in a country town and of local council shenanigans, and, above all, the sparkle of the writing. Just the sort of book to curl up with on winter evenings.

A good read - very enjoyable

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I had read a couple of others in this series so now feel I am up to date. A good read - a little long winded though.
