    Really impressive

I think that this is one of his best books as it returns to the most fertile areas of Gunthers past I hope there are more to come

Curate's egg - good in (only a few) parts.

Have read all the Bernie Gunther novels and have enjoyed them immensely, except this one. I got the impression that Kerr is running out of ideas and momentum. The characters are a little 2-dimensional and the plot far too predictable. As always, Kerr's research into the period is faultless but that's the only redeeming factor. Perhaps time to put Bernie into retirement?

    Excellent

Another great read about Bernie Gunther, easy to read and flows from one year to the next effortlessly, I hope there is more to come about Bernie.

    Pre and post-war interwoven thriller

Commissar Gunther is sent to investigate a murder at Obersalzberg, Hitler's Mountain'. The sense and history of place is well given. I had not realised that the Third Reich was virtually run from this village in Bavaria and that there were so many other notable buildings, not just the Eagle's Nest. This mystery is interwoven with Gunther's postwar career and brought to a conclusion in the abandoned salt mines in the Saar. Exciting and informative. Well done PK.

    Gripping

More gripping back story of Bernie Gunther. He is at his best when trying to work with and survive the Nazis. A great read.
