Humour and escapism in a sunny climate

This book was a change of writing style for Evonne who usually writes romantic suspense novels and I, for one, am very pleased with the result. This book is mainly focused on the two main characters Jake and Cassie however I’m pleased to say that despite this the book held my interest throughout and I found myself reading it at every opportunity. Jake was Cassie’s first love but when he moved to America she didn’t hear from him again until years later when he walks back into her life and offers to help her with a job that a client of the Concierge Service that she owns has asked her to do. This takes them to San Remo and the Riviera setting is beautifully described. I have to admit I did find Jake pretty irresistible too and could picture a very handsome, smartly dressed man, which fitted very well with Cassie who was described as beautiful and who clearly had been subject to heartache in the past but had picked herself up and appeared to be a hard working, though lonely, woman. Cassie and Jake have to pretend to be a married couple which Jake seems more than happy with although Cassie has reservations, but agrees it makes sense to help them try to solve the mystery of what is the man up to who wanted her to deliver an envelope supposedly related to a house inheritance for a large amount of money. Is he who he says he is and what is he really up to? The added bonus of going to San Remo for Cassie is the opportunity to find her ex-boyfriend who ran off with the takings and left her Agency on the brink of going bust. I loved the fact that all of the characters in this book were likeable and it had humour and romance in a wonderful sunshine setting. My only slight criticism is that there were a couple of parts that seemed to jump from one scene to another and appeared unfinished however this is just a minor irritation for me and didn’t stop my enjoyment of the book. I would highly recommend this book for pure escapism and very much look forward to the sequel. Thanks to Choc-Lit for providing me with a review copy of this book in return for an honest review which is completely my own opinion.

    Awesome Beach Read

Cassie is a Jill of All Trades who will do anything to put her beloved company back in the black after her ex-boyfriend makes off with her money. Enter Cassie’s first love Jake along with a sketchy client, and things are only getting harder for her. I thought this was the perfect summer beach read – it was light, entertaining, and a quick read. I was provided a free advance copy of this book in return for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would personally recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great summer read.

Pure escapism and summer reading at its finest

What a beauty! Cassie and Bennie run a successful concierge business but trouble is afoot when a member of staff steals their hard earned money, leading them down a path of financial crisis and possible bankruptcy. In steps the gorgeous Jake, who is back from the US. As part of a bet from his Mum, Jake finds himself running the Detective Agency for a few months, while she heads off on a cruise. Jake likes a challenge, steps up to the mark - not knowing exactly where it will lead, nor where the journey will take him. (Oh ...and the other half of the bet is to date a real woman through work) Back to Cassie .... beautiful, determined, feisty.... oh and ex-girlfriend of Jake ..... who "did a real number" on Cassie ... breaking her heart when she was 17. Clearly after hearing Jake is back in town, Cassie wants nothing to do with Jake and isn't afraid to tell him so. However, they both need each other for different reasons but who will be the first to figure that out and what will happen along get the way. A thoroughly enjoyable read. Easy to read and connect to the characters. Excellent plot and storyline. Didn't want it to end! #romance #romcom #italy #escapism #chicklit #privatedetective #romance #lovebooks

    Great fun

This is a fun book, a great romp. The story is a romantic break which will entertain you and make you smile. Following the adventures of Cassie and Jake while they attempt to solve the mystery of the rich client whilst falling in love is a lovely way to spend a few hours this summer. The characters are believable, but wow, Jake, I wish! The action moves seamlessly from Bath to San Remo, and life in San Remo is well described. I loved how the story ended, just perfect. Take some time for yourself and sit with this book, even if the sun isn't shining on you you will get a lovely warm feeling.

    Very pleasant summer read

A lovely light summer holiday read – Cassie becomes involved through her work and to her initial horror, with her old love, Jake. He left her 12 years ago for the bright lights to make his fortune and she has never gotten over him really. His reappearance in her life stirs everything up, can it work this time? There is a twist in the story which I did work out, but it is not obvious, and adds to the plot. I enjoyed it all for a nice easy read – but then I made the mistake of reading the excerpt from one of Evonne’s earlier works (in a different genre) – and now I need to read the rest of that too!
