    On the Dark Side

Bosch once again untangles the web surrounding a lengthening string of murders, this time to release the innocent accused on behalf of his attorney and brother, Haller. I love how these two characters have slowly evolved through their uncomfortable relationship and how MC has brought them into partnership, however briefly, in this story. It works very well.

    Another superb Bosch story

Bosch's half brother, Michael Haller, is a criminal defence lawyer: part of the dark side to the police. Here, with much misgiving, Bosch works with Haller in Haller's defence of a man on a murder charge. The narrative cleverly points the distinction in approach of Haller who (rightly) merely seeks to get his client off, and Bosch who seeks the truth. The story cleverly takes us through the seedy parts of Los Angeles society, from corrupt policemen to prostitutes and rent boys, with a weak immoral physician; balanced by the occasional decent human being.

    Stupendous

As always, Michael has produced a novel which just demands to be read in one sitting. Bosch is a truly believable character because he has weaknesses and strengths which endear him to the reader. I cannot recommend this highly enough and believe it deserves not 5, but 10 stars at least! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
