  • Fabulous read!

This book is fabulous! I’ve never been so angry for a character as I was for leading lady, Carly; and I loved that I was angry. How blooming well entertaining and gripping. This beautiful forever home had been featured endlessly on TV in a show presented by the Andersons, with Mark the husband being the main feature. On the surface, life seems brilliant with their success envied by all, but this description of the house made me think of the relationships that played out through the book. ‘Breakable, the foundations moving all the time, miniscule, but real nonetheless.’ I love this underlying rumble that nothing ever stays the same even if you can’t see or feel the changes. Time moves even if we want to stay where we are forever. We just hope that these movements don’t destroy us. I loved how the cracks in the building were reflected in the cracking relationships. As for the location, it couldn’t be better. Who doesn’t love a dreamy seaside town? Looe was perfect and there was a real sense of setting. The sea crashing against the rocks; saltiness in the air; the cutesy cafes. Let me stop... I’m not describing a romance at the seaside here, this book will have you clutching it like you’re strangling it. That’s how emotional this journey was. I was so on team Carly throughout. Without saying too much, I can tell you that those blue skies build up to a great big thunderclap which kept me on the edge of my seat. For thrill seekers who love it scary, for people who like books that delve into the ugliest sides of human nature and for an unforgettable ending... you need to read The Forever Home!

  • good

The Forever Home is a good domestic thriller. Domestic since it involves members of the same "extended" family, but especially because 95 per cent of it (maybe more) takes place inside the family home, which is by right one of the main characters It all starts on Carly and Mark's wedding anniversary, during their home party which takes an unexpected turn half way. From there on we descover a lot of past secrets and lies that will shape and unfold the forthcoming events. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

  • Suspenseful Family Drama

Carly and Mark appear to have a charmed life – perfect marriage, perfect house, celebrity status – but just like the façade of Carly’s forever home, it’s meaningless if the foundation isn’t strong. And the foundation of Carly and Mark’s marriage is cracked beyond repair. Now Mark wants a divorce, and Carly wants nothing more than to stay in her forever home... but it seems someone is determined to make sure that doesn’t happen. Although billed as a psychological thriller, this is more of a family/divorce drama with some suspense elements thrown in. I enjoyed the story overall, and you can’t help but feel for all the heartache and fear that Carly is going through. I wanted to punch Mark (and a few others) on her behalf! I did find the story a bit slow to start, with a lot of internal musings from Carly to tell the reader about the characters rather than developing them through dialogue and interactions. Things do get a bit repetitive with the back and forth between Mark’s gaslighting and Carly’s angry phone messages. The story does pick up; once the action really got going, the twists come fast. Just when you think it’s all resolved – bam! – there are still a couple more unexpected twists in store.

  • Full of surprises!

Sue Watson pulls you in from the first page of The Forever Home. Carly is waiting for her husband Mark at their twenty fifth anniversary party. You know something is not right but you have no idea how spectacularly it will all go wrong. In the middle of the party, Carly learns that her husband Mark is leaving her for Erin, his pregnant girlfriend, the daughter of Carly’s best friend and a friend of her own daughter. As if that weren’t bad enough, Mark is the star of The Forever Home, a reality TV show that was first imagined by Carly to feature renovations on their coastal home that she inherited. The show became very popular and is now about to be sold to American TV. They will make millions if they can remain Carly and Mark, the charming Anderson family. Can Carly do this? Can she keep Mark’s secrets and her own? And how will she explain the cute handyman who is spending so much time at her house? This psychological thriller is full of surprises! Just remember that things are not always what they seem but even if you do, you won’t see the final twist coming. 5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Sue Watson for this ARC.

  • My Favorite Sue Watson Book

Another brilliant twisty book by Sue Watson! Carly and Mark had what appeared to be a great life, two children and a gorgeous house on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Atlantic in Cornwall. Mark had fixed up their beautiful house and it had made them famous. However, everything changed on the night of their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary party. Carly finds out some devastating news about her husband. Carly tries to stay afloat, changes her hairstyle and gets a job. She gets threatening messages and packages that bring fear to her in her home. Who is doing this and who can she trust? This was one of my favorite Sue Watson books yet. I can tell she really puts tremendous thought into her books to really grab the attention of her readers. This was a twisty tale with an ending I didn't see coming and I was pleasantly surprised! I highly recommend this one! Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
