    Storytelling and Science

The book very cleverly weaves in the story of Henrietta and her familys' life alongside the story of Henrietta's HeLa cells and the Scientific advances made since. Throughout the book and particularly at the end of the book questions are raised around ownership, ethics and law. Some of which I am continuing to reflect on now.

    Excelente libro

Previamente he trabajado con células HeLa en el laboratorio. Jamás habría conocido toda la historia, y polémica de estas células que muchos científicos damos por hecho, de no ser por este libro.

Never has so much been owed by so many to 1 person

An amazing story about a woman we all owe so much to but few of us recognise the contribution she made to our health. It is a very good piece of investigative journalism and also a searing condemnation of the way that people of colour at still treated today.

    Gripping reading

I can see why this is a permanent bestseller. A fascinating look at not just medicine through the ages but also how people have been treated by it (and ALL the reasons for that - including race) and the repercussions it can have on their families even decades later. The science is also explained very clearly so that even if you don't have a background in sciences you can follow the working without too much effort. A careful and sensitive representation of Henrietta and her family's story.

One of the best books I've ever read

Well written and researched, so well its now a standard text for biology students. Moving, compelling and insightful.
