  • Great book

Sophy has known Fitzwilliam, Lord Ravensbourne since they were young. He was burned when he was a child and it left him scarred inside and out. Known as a monster to some, he has always been special to Sophy. She was sent to live in France when her mother died and became a spy for the British after her young husband was executed. Someone has found out about Sophy and her life is in danger. She returns to spend time with Fitz as he has always felt like home to her. He has no idea about Sophy's profession. When she arrives, she finds out that Fitz is engaged to a woman who needs refuge. When love blooms between Sophy and Fitz, there are too many secrets and ghosts to overcome. An enemy comes into their life with an agenda of his own. Will anyone live through this? It is a story of intrigue and second chances. I loved this story. It is more than a love story. It has spies and traitors. I received this book from Net Galley and Choc Lit for a honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.

  • A Good Read

This author is new to me, but I hope to read more from her. Sophy was widowed at 16 and then became a British spy in Napoleonic France for 10 years. Fitz is her ‘sort of’ step brother (her mother died 2 weeks before the wedding to his father) Sophy’s cover is compromised so she flees from France back to Fitz – Ravensbourne being the only home she remembers. Sophy has of course become very independent because of the lifestyle she has led, but most of it has been hidden from general view. I really liked the characters, enjoyed reading the book which took no effort at all, and a most satisfactory conclusion was achieved. I look forward to the next offering from this author.

  • Thoroughly enjoyable story

Fast paced novel with strong but troubled lead characters. Heart searching by a brave young woman who had been a British spy in war torn France. Great 1st novel from this exciting new writer.

  • Great Read!

Sophy has spent the last 10 years abroad but circumstances have brought her back to Ravensbourne Castle, to the man who might have been her stepbrother if life had turned out differently. Fitz is both dreading and looking forward to seeing Sophy again but both carry pain and secrets that could come between them. I really loved this novel – it had mystery, action, and romance. I enjoyed getting to know Sophy and Fitz as the story unfolded. The characters were intriguing, the plot was engaging, and the pace was perfect. I was provided a free advance copy of this book in return for an honest review. I am definitely looking forward to another novel by this author!
