    True mastery

Been training with John Hennessy for over twenty years. Believe me, if a student can't find a good teacher, he moves on. John constantly challenges me to be a better fighter and a better man. Thanks to his training methods, my karate - which was already good, became even better. He taught me Wing Chun - 18 full on syllabuses and all five ranks of his Jeet Kune Do. Includes Shaolin and Tai Chi. The journey took me all over the world to Thailand, Cambodia, United States, Bhutan and Borneo. Learned so much from him. You will learn a lot too if you read this book.

    Essential book for martial artists!

A long awaited follow up to John Hennessy's original Essence of Martial Arts. This considerable volume goes deeper into what martial arts philosophy really is and should be, and as a long time student of martial arts and competitive fighting myself, it's easy to sort the best from the also-rans. This book is firmly in the former. I like the short chapters too, but as with the first book, it's the personal stories that give it a human touch. The author says he is going to write a third volume, I would certainly like to read that!!

It's the book real martial artists wanted

Imagine a book that covers Shaolin, Karate, Kung Fu, and my own style of Jeet Kune Do, and you'll know it can't possibly cover everything. The author gives true life advice based on his experience and incredible knowledge. You might not wanna hear it all, but deep down, you know it makes sense. It's refreshing to read something that is honest and uncompromising. John Hennessy is considered as both a great fighter but also a gentleman when it comes to the martial arts community. If you are not learning direct from IMO one of the last true great Western Kung Fu Masters, be glad you could read direct from the source. I loved this book.

Essential reading for all martial artists!

Fantastic book! Essential reading for martial artists of all abilities. Well written and the author explores all aspects of how to master martial arts and literally end fights as soon as possible. Particularly enjoyed the gripping re-telling of the author's experience in martial arts tournaments and his thoughts on how important timing, speed, accuracy and power really are. A must buy!
