    Loved it

The perfect read for anyone who likes to be taken on an unexpected adventure by the books they read. I felt so involved in the story - it was like I knew the characters. Highly recommended.

    Ms

Some very interesting use of historical/religious references which promotes one's interest in the time when the novel is set. Some over use of metaphors - which I quite like but others criticise heavily - & anachronistic moments that are a little startling. The role of the Miniaturist herself is a bit under developed; her contribution is significant but rather casually cast aside towards the end as if the author could not find a satisfactory conclusion. Evident that the author understands the difference between the merchant classes of Amsterdam & their roles in contemporary Dutch life as opposed the the English aristocratic/mercantile divide.

    17th C Holland brought alive

Beautiful prose, a tale told compellingly and much suspense to keep one gripped to the very end.

    Great writing

An interesting book that kept me curious and wanting to read on. I have some unanswered questions though. I am wanting to know the outcome rather than leaving it to my imagination. It could set you on the path of looking into dutch law and the treatment of women in the 1600s
