  • Such a good read!

This book is definitely going to be one of my favorite reads for this year. Author Sheryl Browne has definitely done it again with this page-turner with lots of twists and turns so hang on for the ride of your life! Joshua Colby ends up falling on the railroad tracks and dies. At the funeral, his mother, Cassandra, sees a pregnant girl but does not have any contact with her. Three months later, the same girl, Kimberley Summers comes to their home with a newborn baby and states that he is Josh's son, Samuel. From that point on, lots of strange things begin to happen making this a fantastic read. This book is told by various narrators which makes it an even better read. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this truly remarkable book that kept me up reading long into the night.

  • Loved it!

Every book I have read from Sheryl just out does the other and The New Girlfriend is no exception. It is dark, twisted, oh so wicked and very hard to tear yourself away from it, so make sure that you have set yourself some time aside when you start. Sheryl has put together a very well plotted and thrilling story that had me hooked from start to finish. Told from multiple points of views and with chapters that are told in the present and past tense, Sheryl has gone deep into that wicked mind of hers and has produced a story that is full of secrets, manipulation, lies and deceit. The characters that have been created and put together are first class and have been very well developed. Sheryl has a real knack for this and I love how she gets inside their heads as well as the readers, which always makes for such a realistically vivid reading experience. Though not all likeable, each adds their own mark on the story and are very well portrayed in the roles they have been given. The New Girlfriend is a slow burn to begin with, but in no way did it make me restless wanting the story to move along. It does so at its own pace, all the while with tension and suspense bubbling away in the background, as you wait for the explosions. The best comes in the epilogue, which I have to say is up there with one of the best I have read! Well played Sheryl. Very well played indeed! What always draws me to Sheryl’s books is she really knows how to deliver the most amazing twists and jaw dropping, unexpected endings. So much so, as a book blogger and a fanatical psychological thriller reader, I hereby pronounce her the master of this and of the genre! The New Girlfriend is such a gripping read and a fantastic addition to Sheryl’s bibliography and it is one book that I have no trouble at all in highly recommending! Sheryl really is such an asset to the writing community and I will always be lining up for the next book. Thanks for another cracking read Sheryl and I can’t wait to read what you come up with next. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Sheryl Browne for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The New Girlfriend which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

  • Explosive & Enthralling

This, my fourth novel by the talented author Sheryl Browne was as absorbing and exhilarating as the previous ones, including The Marriage Trap and The Perfect Sister. In The New Girlfriend the reader is privy to an exciting and intriguing prologue that hooked me in immediately. I was introduced to Cassie, who opens her front door one day to a young woman named Kim, claiming to be Cassie's recently deceased son's girlfriend. But Kim is not alone - she has baby Samuel in her arms. Still grieving for Josh, Cassie's overjoyed when Kim announces that Samuel is Josh's son, but then, as she starts to receive threats, Cassie is terrified that her long-held secrets are about to be uncovered... The New Girlfriend is a brilliant and cracking story with a solid fast-paced plot, together with shedloads of mystery and drama. A psychological thriller full of secrets, no one escaped this story unscathed and the excitement and twists that I didn't predict made this novel interesting and unexpected. The chapters were short and snappy, giving me a dreadful case of just one more chapter syndrome. The different strands in this cleverly written, complex story eventually came together at the end. The unique way with the narrative that Sheryl Browne possesses made this hair-raising and enthralling story stand out from many of the others in this genre. Thanks Sheryl Browne for this fantastic book! I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

  • twists and turns

Crazy meets crazy in this book. Secrets that bloom into avalanches. Some really nasty characters with no redeeming features. Some you have faith in. Your heart breaks for Cassie who has just lost her son Josh in a terrible accident and then his new girlfriend Kim shows up with his son. Let the games begin. Twists and turns, I never saw that ending coming even though I was quite suspicious of a few people in this book, the ending took me by surprise. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this roller coaster of a read.

  • A wicked thriller

Having read all books by this author, I could see how far the writing had come. Evil came in various forms, and one of them was Sheryl Browne. She gave me unreliable characters, really weird ones, who appeared nice, but I was never sure of them. Then she gave me a plot which inverted over itself midway. The one I liked became the one I was scared of. Then she gave me reveals, not those tiny ones, but huge earth shaking…err…book-shaking ones. The book would change directions frequently. I was kept on the back foot the whole time, not knowing what was happening. There were parts I guessed, rather I hoped the author would write in. And I was blown away when I was right… Suspense kept the prose flowing and secrets made it more intriguing. The story never let up until the last line when truth was revealed to me at last.
