    Definitely 5 Big Stars

I had the pleasure of being reintroduced to the feisty Clara from The Major's Faux Fiancé and the rogue, Capt. Blackheart from The Earl's Defiant Wallflower where they separately played supporting characters in each of those two earlier books. I think, so far, this has been the best story in this series. I simply loved the games between them and their total trust of and their continuous support for each other. Both are very strong characters, yet quite different from each other. Neither of them are that young that their decisions and actions might be considered irresponsible. They know what they are doing and they know exactly how to get what they want and enjoy adventures together. This story is written so well that I would have been quite happy for it to carry on indefinitely. In fact, I think it would probably make a great TV series or full length movie. Kudu's to Erica Ridley, the author, for a job well done!

    High Sea Adventures!

The Earl of Carlisle sent Captain Blackheart on a mission to bring back his wife's (Grace) mother. No problem, thinks the Captain; this would be easy money, retrieving and returning an old sickly woman. Then he meets Clara Halton, his "cargo/booty!" He knows he's in trouble! High sea adventures, warm, assertive, self confident male and female characters and witty dialog keep the pages turning!. Loved the way the characters from earlier books fit right in with their scenes! Well done! Yet it's a stand alone read. Thoroughly enjoyed! Received book free for honest review.

    Smiley Tears Abound!

To stand out in an already exemplary series is not an easy task but Erica Ridley manages to do so with her latest work The Pirate's Tempting Stowaway. The sixth installment in her Dukes Of War series readers will be pleased by the maturity and simmering attraction between the hero and heroine. Moments of smiley tears abound in this tale of people defying the harsh hands dealt them by fate and finding love. A true artist Ms. Ridley takes her audience on a wonderful and caring journey with just the right amount of spiritedness thrown in to spice things up! *I received this ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.* *While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*

    Romance on the High Seas

Take a well-educated pirate, send him to pick up the mother of your new wife and then transport her back to England from America on his pirate ship and you end up with this fun romance, Captain Blackheart and Clara Halton are both around forty, from completely different backgrounds, have faced adversity, want adventure and are definitely attracted to one another. How can a woman who wants what she wants and a man who does not want to give up his way of life ever come to terms? Can they find a workable compromise? This romance is definitely more fun than fact BUT we all need a bit of escape from time to time, right? Great fun, great dialogue, interesting characters and fun around every corner – if you are in the mood for a quick escape this might be the one for you. (3.5 Stars)

Wonderful writing and a fun read!

Captain Blackheart, a Pirate, doing a job, that is all he was and all he wanted to be. He is to pick up a widowed woman in America and deliver her back to London, England and then he can be on his way to find the Crimson Corsair. A murderous pirate who is ruining his reputation. He did not figure on Clara Halton. She is far from the matronly widow he expected. He also doesn't count on her being locked in her home and the town leaving her for dead. Captain Steele aka Blackheart loves the sea. He feels completely out of sorts on land. He has had his "career" of sorts. He was once a very good Barrister. Then he was "recruited" kidnapped and taken out to sea and pressed into service. He found that he loved the life. Clara Halton is from England, but when she trusts the wrong "gentleman" she loses everything and runs away to America. She meets and marries a wonderful man, but he is lost all too soon. She is now a widow and seemingly dyeing of consumption. Captain Steel comes and immediately takes her health and well-being into his own hands. He has some experience with the deadly disease having lost family to it. She does not seem to have the same symptoms. Either way, his job is to bring her back to England to reunite with her daughter. This is the 6th book in the series and while having read the previous books lent itself to knowing the backstory, I think you could read this on it's own. It is a great romp of a story! Erica Ridley does a fantastic job of painting the scenes in rich detail, bringing the story to life with great witty banter and lovely real characters. I truly love the writing and the way she doesn't make it easy for the Hero and Heroine. They do eventually get their HEA but they have a rough way to get there!!
