A gripping read .... draws you in from the start

What an enticing and intoxicating read. I literally had no idea where it was going .... although hoping for the romance that kept getting interrupted. The storyline was brilliant. This is about a writer called Drew and aspiring (just not recognised yet) writer, Lori. Both lead very different lives and yet both of their Christmas run ups take an unexpected twist of events. Drew has been guilt tripped into taking part in a live kidnapping on air to raise money for charity .... he is somewhat surprised by the reality of it when it comes to his turn at being kidnapped but goes along with it. It's not until he is bound up and aware of the fact the journey seems to be a different route than expected that he starts to panic. He is punched, kicked and dragged to an out building in the middle of the Breacon Beacons ....in the middle of winter.... where he is dumped and chained to the inside of a shed - with some seeds and a bucket ... Lori on the other hand is getting ready to spemd her Christmas in a bed and breakfast, with her cat (to give builders space to carry out works on her house). She is more than surprised to hear a car pulling up and to find her sister stepping out of it demanding where her Daughter is. Lori, somewhat confused and baffled as to how a mother can not possibly know where her own child is ?!? explains that she does not have and has not been looking after Misty. After a survey of the property, Lark realises it is in fact true. Her daughter is not there. Phone calls are made and Misty is located. Lark insists her driver take her to collect her Daughter as she is soon to be on a private jet for a holiday with her new boyfriend. Lori relaxes again only to hear another car .... ok .. same car pull up and little feet running down the path with a pile of presents left at the side of her house and a wave goodbye from the window from her sister. Lori has to change her plans quickly ..... looks like she is spending her Christmas with her gorgeous niece and her beloved cat .... luckily, her friend helps them out. If you like what you have heard so far and want to find out how Lori and Drew's paths cross .... have a read. It's a fantastic book. I was lucky enough to read it just prior to release day in exchange of an honest review .... this is it. 5☆

    Top quality read

This was a top quality read. The story was very good, a real page turner but in a good way.The characters were well rounded, real people and I felt I really knew them by the end of the book. From the initial introduction of Drew in a meeting, through his kidnapping, rescue and subsequent development you really get to understand and root for him. Lori was very well portrayed in particular and I felt I would have really liked her in real life. The format of the story was unusual, being written in a diary format which worked really well. I also loved the way the story was finished, with no loose ends. This is the first book I have read by Evonne Wareham, but I am now looking for more. Buy this either for a Christmas present, or for yourself to claim a few minutes of “me” time, preferably with a mug of something warming.

    A wonderful Christmas read

What Happens at Christmas combined romance with a suspenseful mystery all in a wonderful Christmas setting making it in my opinion a perfect read for the holidays. Drew, a famous adventure writer, agrees to be ‘kidnapped’ for charity on live TV but when things turn real it’s a different story. He’s rescued by Lori whose Christmas is not turning out as she’d planned even before she stumbles across Drew. A quiet week off work spent on her writing while her cottage is being renovated falls apart when her selfish sister dumps her sweet niece Misty on her for the holidays. They get snowed in her remote borrowed cottage in the Welsh countryside but he’s terrified of getting her involved in what is clearly a plot to kill him. For his own tragic reasons he’s closed himself off to love but finds it hard to resist Lori and her efforts to put together an impromptu Christmas for them all. When the snow thaws reality sets in and a mysterious chain of events unfold with some fascinating twists and turns and we discover if Lori and Drew can overcome them with the help of a touch of Christmas magic

    A Christmas Cracker!

This was a cracker – I really enjoyed it. The story is about Lori who is an aspiring author, and is bamboozled into caring for her small niece over Christmas. Drew is already an author, writing dare devil type stories for which he does his own physically demanding research. However, his latest escapade goes dramatically adrift – someone intends a fake kidnapping to actually be very real, with the hopeful outcome being Drew’s demise. I liked all the people I was supposed to like, and thoroughly disliked Lori’s sister as I was intended. I did have my own ideas as to who had rigged Drew’s kidnap, but thought I was wrong for a while. It was gratifying to be right in the end! I have no hesitation in recommending this novel to anybody, it took no reading at all – I had to keep going till it was most satisfactorily finished – another late night/early morning then!

    Lovely read

A very fluently written book that keeps your attention from the beginning until the end. A story full of emotions : tears, smiles, love, jalousy, hate and to give it some extra pizzazz, a touch of suspense. Curl up in your favourite chair with your favourite drink and something to nibble on and enjoy it or if you are looking for a good gift to put under the christmas tree, you have now found it.
