❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋 A great story set in the Ozarks 1864. Mathew McEnroy is in the army . When out on patrol his unit is chased to a cabin , while defending their positions the owners of the property are killed , leaving Mathew with their daughter to care for . Abigail Jenson is that daughter , when soldiers poor into her cabin and start a shootout her first reaction is to protect her family , a sick father and a mother who is mentally unstable due to the thought of loosing her partner and traumatic handling from the last soldiers to attack there home . Abigail is forced to leave when her parents are killed and Mathew takes her to the only place he can think of to keep her safe , a house for women in the town where his unit is based . The two of them begin to form a strong relationship , but where will it lead ? A well written book with strong characters and locations. Very enjoyable reading x I received a copy of this book from Netgalley, and chose to submit a review

Ok. Not as good as #1. Maybe it was the war part but parts were dragging. Also, why is it that the men just have to have sex? This man needed to have this innocent girl even though he didn't know her, didn't love her but had to have her? And the girl is so stupid, even after watching her friend die having a baby, from walking out with a man in the middle of a war! Do these women ever say no? Gets mighty old reading old time stuff.

    Historical Romance

When You Love A Scotsman by Hannah Howell Seven Brides for Seven Scotsmen #2 This series in which Scottish men who have immigrated to America will each have the story of how they find their brides told. In book one of the series each brother is met and a bit is told about him and it then tells the story of the eldest, Iain McEnroy, and the woman he finds to settle down with. In this, the second book, Matthew’s romance with Abigail is shared. Having read and enjoyed one of this author’s historical romances set in Scotland I was eager to begin at the beginning of this new series. I wrote in my review of that first book that it was okay and predictable but that it had great characters. This book was less enjoyable than the previous one and I am not sure if it is the issue of the American Civil War and the way it is portrayed or if it was my inability to really relate to or care about many of the characters other than very young orphaned Noah. I was unable to see what Matthew and Abigail saw in one another and wondered why Matthew was so gun-shy…at least when it came to marriage. I couldn’t understand how the two fell into a physical relationship so easily and without seeming to really love one another. I felt there needed to be more of something. Perhaps since it is a war story it needed more military action or since it is a romance a bit more actual wooing and emotion or since the McEnroys are from Scotland a bit more of the culture from there as it was incorporated into their life in America. So, I was left feeling ho-hum and so-so about this book and wondering whether or not I want to continue with the series. I think it will depend on who is next up for their story to be told and what the plotline is going to be. I did note that there were a lot of new characters added at the end of this book that could star in books of their own so this series could be just as lengthy in number of books as Howell’s Murray Family series. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books-Zebra for the ARC – This is my honest review. 2-3 Stars

    When You Love a Scotsman

Hannah, you never let me down with your books. You always put in scenes to drop the reader! Some are gory and some drop you through the floor. Keep them coming. This is the second in this series about a family of 7 brothers who came from Scotland to be safe, right during our Civil War. Matthew is a scout. He finds Abigail after a raid. Her father is dying and her mother won't go away from him. Major Spoiler! Matthew takes her with him to a town. Mrs. Beaton is the manager and is a Crab! Abby finds 4 children stuck in the attic and Abby finds Noah who has lost everyone. He attaches to Abby. Major Spoiler! Her room mate is Emily. She has a lover in the new camp. She goes out. Emily falls for Robert and one day he gets wounded that won't heal. Major Spoiler! They get married, he passes on as she is pregnant. Major Spoiler. Now Matthew is hurt and Abby works to heal him. Emily died to go to her lover. They go to Matthew 's home. It is a bit better from now on. Please choose to read this book. You will fall into this story. I hope you will enjoy your reading!
