    Good read

A history book styled like a story discussing a fascinating period in English history. It dealt only in facts and never tried to fill in gaps with the authors hypothesis, instead offering up all the potential theories which added to the intrigue. I can now see how people think Game of Thrones was stylised on the events of the War of Roses. My only problem was that I read it too quickly.

    Fascinating. Well worth the read.

So, history is supposed to be dry as dust? Not when you read it in this excellent work. Scholarly , yet easy to read, well researched and presented in such clear and concise prose. Made me realize how deep is the chasm of my knowledge of English history. :-)

    Another good read.

I read this one immediately behind The Plantagenets by the same author. I’d recommend doing it that way, the subject matter flows naturally from one to the other. As with the first book provided the level of detail and analysis that I look for in first rate historical work.
