British agent in India reacts to his wife's murder

John Hayes and his new wife, Charlotte, are enjoying his assignment in Bangalore, India. After seeing the normal tourist destinations, they become fascinated with India and enjoy travelling and enjoying India's pleasures. Even the oppressive heat is not so bad when you are in love, enjoying the sites and the cuisine. The sense of the unreasonable road conditions plays a major role in this story. Corruption in which politicians tell the police what is to be enforced and who should be ignored has been a long time curse for India. This is not a place where respect for law and the rule of law has been established. A side swipe by a drunken quartet of privileged kids leads to abduction and death. The police are "powerless" to act; such events are part of each week's news specially when the perpetrators are thought to be well connected. Raised in Britain, John is unprepared for the underwhelming police investigation. As the title suggests, John takes matters into his own hands. John is able to cause one honest Inspector, Rajiv Sampath, to inquire about strange karma as unexpected deaths occur. I suspect that you will enjoy finding out how the story develops. The author is good at explaining the moral dilemma and the tension between good and evil. The best vignette was in describing the slaughter of a rooster and using the dead animal to put the fear of god in one of the perpetrators.

    A Question of Morality

This story is beautifully written and manages to capture the flavor of an exotic culture to enhance the story. John's beautiful existence is destroyed by thugs who murder his wife and seem to be untouchable by the authorities. The despondence and pressure lead him to start a series of actions that conflict with his moral code. the book covers the internal conflict as John slowly moves into revenge mode and is driven to action. The end is never in question, but the process leading to it is well documented

    Sweet Revenge

It's a gripping story that could happen anytime to anyone in today's world. The loss of a loved one through violence... What would you do? I know what I'd consider doing and John Hayes is my kind of man. Not another Taken he doesn't have a set of special skills just a need for revenge.
