    A very important, informative guide

4.5 stars I read this book by Earl Sands in the course of one evening, and I would suggest it to all people who are interested in knowing the pros and cons of declaring bankruptcy in Canada. Obviously it doesn’t have ALL the answers, but definitely covers the most important areas and is a fantastic starting point as a resource for valuable information, much of which I’m sure some people might be surprised to learn. Sands writes in a manner that is quite digestible for the everyday man (do not need a fancy law degree to understand what he is saying), it isn’t highbrow or esoteric at all, but he does cover a wide range of scenarios and easily lays it all out with references and even some personal stories as examples. All in all a great book on the topic, one that most people hope to probably never need, but unfortunately many will and it is imperative to know all you can about your situation. This is an excellent place to start! A highly recommended read that can help you to better understand the many issues with bankruptcy in Canada

    Well written and very informative

4.5 stars Okay, I honestly didn’t expect to…considering the serious subject matter and all… but I really liked this book and read it in just a few nights! Very easy to get sucked into and right away the reader is very quickly interested in what the author Earl Sands is saying here. It’s hard to know what going through a bankruptcy (or other financial crisis) is REALLY like unless you’ve experienced it first hand, which none of us hope to do, but it will be a reality for many. Just knowing what you are in for and what to expect and how to handle different situations can be of extraordinary value to many. This book covered a wide variety of topics relating to many different aspects of finances and insolvency/bankruptcy and with great depth and detail but without getting bogged down with the pacing – was interesting the whole way through. For a book that is ‘nonfiction’ I didn’t think it was dry or boring at all, and I always appreciate that! Definitely feel like I learned something valuable here and thank Mr. Sands for sharing his knowledge with others. Even though I may not personally agree with what people have done to get there, this isn’t about judgment, but about dealing with reality and making the best of a bad situation and starting over fresh. Great writing and editing, too. A very polished and impressive feel all around.

A Valuable Tool for Those in Need

This is the first book I’ve read about this subject, and I was impressed with just how thorough it is on the subject of Canadian insolvency/bankruptcy, and with all the practical advice Earl Sands gives. Obviously no one ever wants to end up needing this book and have bankruptcy or financial insolvency be a reality in their life – but the sad truth is that this is something that profoundly affects many Canadians. A book like this, comprehensive, well-written and researched, can provide a valuable tool for enduring such a life-changing event. Hope you never need this book, but if you do I definitely recommend it. From determining different types of debt, to suggestions for avoiding a BK, and the steps to rebuilding your (financial) life afterwards, this covers a ton of territory in a quick but comprehensive way that will answer questions you didn’t even know that you had. Like the title says, this is geared toward Canadians only.

    Easy to understand

"Canadian Insolvency Guide” by Earl Sands is admittedly a niche book, but an extremely important one for those in its market. His invaluable expertise in the Insolvency field can help countless people considering entering (or already in) this financial situation. I was surprised at just how informative and easy to read it was – I admit I was a bit nervous thinking it would all be in complicated ‘legalese’ but it was quite down-to-earth and explained basic points very clearly. I was also surprised to learn how flexible some situations can be, that it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ solution, but one that can be different for individual circumstances and needs – it doesn’t just address filing for bankruptcy, but also some ways NOT to. Very informative and useful. Do yourself a favor and read this and save yourself a lot of trouble down the road! Perfect editing and formatting. Recommend for Canadian readers only as these are very specific laws and rules that will not apply elsewhere.

    Great Job!

This was a powerful, eye-opening and informative book that really does a great job of tackling a difficult subject and breaking it down into very relatable and understandable situations. Going through financial difficulties, specifically a bankruptcy is a huge, and most likely very frightening ordeal for many people. Most people are scared and confused what will happen next, and this fear of not knowing what to expect can make things all the more terrifying or overwhelming. This book, “Canadian Insolvency Guide- Helping Canadians get a Fresh Financial Start” by Earl Sands is exactly what the title implies, and more. What I appreciated was that it not only gave us gave us insight into bankruptcy on many levels, but also educated me more about the credit system in general… so even if it is not something I can personally use at the moment (thank goodness), it was still a riveting and educational read. So many great references, links, and resources on many topics, and refreshingly easy to read. Even some interesting history as well! Professional presentation from layout to editing to formatting to writing.
