    A Very Plausible Tale

It has always been acknowledged that George Custer could have survived the battle at the Little Big Horn. That he might have gone into politics is no great stretch of the imagination, wth his ambitious wife to drive and advise him. That he would then have struggled, completely out of his depth, was certain given his active life and a battlefield beyond his ability to understand. Would he have started a war? It is notorious for uniting a country, although sometimes against the fool who started it, if it goes badly. The sequence of events in Cuba are, again, all too likely. The struggle with alternative history is to make it believable, and Robert Conroy has done a thorough job here. A good read indeed.
