  • Very original Irish fantasy

I really enjoyed this story which followed on well from the first book. The two strong female protagonists are strong yet very believable and Liath Luachra in particular is a fascinating character. The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger (literally) for the third book in the series which I've also read.

  • A rollicking and entertaining ride!

A clever and exciting follow up to the first book in the series, this sees the survivors of the attack on the Rath Bladhma settlement obliged to travel across the Great Wild to Bodhmhall’s family home. Unfortunately, everything is not as it appears. Once again, it’s O’Sullivan’s visionary descriptions of second century Ireland landscapes that impress here. The land is lush and fascinating, full of ancient monuments but also of hidden dangers. Between that and the two strong female protagonists that would put most other female fantasy characters out there to shame, this is a rollicking and entertaining ride.

  • Excellent

Takes the Liath character to another level of complexity. More gory battles, told as if I has fought them myself.

  • An exiting follow up

This was an exiting follow up to the first book. The action has moved from the setlement out into the wilderness where Demne's two guardians struggle against a number of threats - old and new - to get their charge to safety. Accompanied by Demne's politically manipulative mother and her new husband means the task is twice as hard.
