    You can do better

I could not get on with this book. Though their physical ordeals are precisely described, I could not relate to either "daughter". The background is peopled with cliches and stereotypes, e.g. crusading lawyer, dangerous redneck, corrupt cop. Slaughter over-writes and over-details, e.g. her theory that red wine tannins trigger esophageal cancer goes on for a couple of pages. The plot is convoluted and unconvincing. Plots must be character-driven to grip the reader. It's as if Slaughter sat down and thought "What can I write for next season's read?". No amount of research makes a good writer. I should tell you that the book got some good reviews, and that she is a successful writer of thrillers. And that you can do better.

    Did not disappoint

This is the first Slaughter book I've read in a while, and I remembered quicly why I fell in love with her writing in the first place. Great story, well written, interesting characters. High recommend for anyone who likes this genre. Fantastic book.
