    The Luminaries

Outstanding piece of crafted literature - over 700 pages and I was devestated when I finished. Each and every character hued out of Catton's masterful command of the written word. I would love to read the back stories on each and every character as they are all so wonderfully real. Stunning work.

    The Luminaries

Extraordinary vocabulary. Mentally challenging. You have to read every word. It is not for those who like to skim read. But it's worth it. What an amazing author, she transports us to the early European settlement of Hokitika and the town and the people come to life as the story unfolds. Well done!

    A story told twice over

A long story that got shorter and shorter the further you read.

    The unfolding of a mystery

Once I got into this book which took a good 100pages or so I could not put it down. The layers peel back to get to the crux of the story, the beginning is the end and the end is the beginning. Loved it.

    Great read

Well done Eleanor Catton, on a great story and a very enjoyable read as well as the award! Very complex plot and descriptions to match. Where did your depth and maturity come from?
