    Exciting conclusion to the trilogy

Prepare yourselves for another roller coaster, because this one's a doozy. Barrel Proof isn't a standalone and picks up right where Cask Strength leaves off with Agents Irish and Whiskey trying to apprehend a terrorist, rescue their boss, and figure out the connection to the accident that style Aidan's husband and his partner's lives. The action happened immediately in those first chapters, culminating in an intense scene in Cuba. Once again, Miss Reyne does a fantastic job providing enough details to make the scene come alive while maintaining a rapid pace that had me furiously reading with a death grip on my e-reader. Unfortunately, Aidan's dramatic ways also appeared again, and by the fourth chapter I kind of wanted to kick him in his lovely Irish butt. As much as I was a little irritated with this plot development, it goes to show you how invested I am in these characters and this couple. There are no "meh" feelings here at all regarding the characters, and I was happy with the way things eventually played out. Barrel Proof was mostly a wrap up of the story arc that followed the agents throughout this series. Rather than having a secondary case that diverts their attention, it's about closing the Renaud case and uncovering his connections. While I appreciated the twists that occurred and getting complete closure, I missed seeing Whiskey and Irish working a case together. I lost out on a lot of that camaraderie that had built over the past two books. I think that coupled with Aidan's withdrawal from Jamie left me feeling less enthused about Barrel Proof. Honestly, I expected a bit of a smoother path for Aidan and Jamie in the final book of this trilogy. I expected to be able to bask a bit in the love afterglow after they've been through more than their share of heartache. I didn't get a full book of that, but I have to say I loved how it ended. If you're a fan of law enforcement romances that deliver a healthy dose of excitement in the case and love department, this series isn't to be missed. *Reviewed for Alpha Book Club*

    Barrel Proof

Barrel Proof is the emotional, high impact, AMAZING finale to the Agents Irish and Whiskey series, and it does need to be read in order to understand what is going on. Aidan decides that he needs some space from Jamie following his betrayal, not because he wants to end things with Jamie but the complete opposite reason. He wants Jamie, he loves him, but he knows that his anger will overshadow that. So he requests what should be a simple solo job, undercover at a financial company. What he doesn't know is that things are coming to a head and he is in deeper than he realised. Oh my! This book, this series! I have loved every single book (even when Aidan was acting like a jerk). Nothing is said or done without reason, and they all become clear in this edition. Any loose ends are tied up, some in ways that I never envisaged. The story is fast-paced but very smooth. With both Jamie and Aidan at odds, plus Mel and Danny, there is lot angst in this book, so the sexy times are not as numerous. However, this didn't negatively impact the story in any way. In fact, it would have been odd to do it any other way. Heart-breaking and heart-fulfilling, this book is the perfect finale to the series, and Layla Reyne now has a brand new reader completely addicted to her work. Without a doubt, absolutely recommended by me. * A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. * Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
