    Enjoyable Reading

Another enjoyable story from Kathryn. Her heroes always please – damaged but I’m sure I could fix him! This one, Aiden, is a racing car driver, with a famous racing World Champion father – big shoes to fill. Melanie works in Media Relations for the team he is in, and in no way wants to be involved with another driver, having had her heart broken before. The story progresses through the championship season, will it end satisfyingly?

    Love amid a racing team

A Formulae One racing season is not the usual backdrop to a romantic novel, but in Before You, it works perfectly by adding tension, an enormous legacy and seemingly insurmountable barriers both emotionally and physically for Aiden Foster, racing driver, and Melanie Hunt, the Delta Team’s press officer, to overcome if their relationship is to stand a chance. Both have unknowingly built protective walls around their hearts, and both have to learn how to take them down. Luckily they can learn from each other and the reader is with them every step of the way. This is a peep behind the curtain of the public image of Formulae One, where we get to learn about the nomadic lifestyle of a racing team, where work colleagues become closer than family and all types of tensions run high…and I’m not necessarily talking about who is going to win a race. I received a free ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

    Lovely story

written by Ilse Van Thielen (boekenfans) REVIEW Before you by Kathryn Freeman Car drivers are a brand with an image to be maintained. Aiden Foster is racing for the same team, Delta, as his father Sebastian who died in a crash. People expect hi mto be as good as his father who won the World Championship 5 times. And Aiden is struggling to live up to the expectations. Melanie Hunt is the Delta press officer and has a crush on Aiden. She has a way of seeing past the facade, right into the core of a person. But Aiden can’t get distracted if he ever wants to win a World Championship. When a young boy comes stirring up things for Aiden as well, he has to find a way to keep focussed. It was the first time I read a book by this author. It’s not the kind of story I usually read. I am more into the ‘quest fort he hidden relic’ kind of story. But this romantic story was a great change and I absolutely loved it. I would love to read another book by this author some time in the future. Kathryn Freeman gives us a good view into the racing world. From practice sessions to familiarise with the track to getting cars ready for qualifying. The racing is fast paced action, and you live through every emotion Aiden goes through when he’s driving. You are really rooting for him. There are some time jumps in the story. No major ones but just a week or a bit more. This gives the story a quicker pace and makes you want to read on. It is more than just a book about a car driver and racing on the track. Freeman explains what is going on behind the scenes, tells about the racing engineer and press officer. Being a journalist myself, it was an interesting take on the story because that is not the thing we see when we watch a race on television. It was refreshing to see a woman around the racing track keeping up with the guys. The cat and mouse. Will I? Won’t I? I love that kind of thing. A strong woman in a story without making it look like it has been written to make her strong for the sake of it. The book has 30+ chapters and is just over 300 pages. Which means about 10 pages a chapter. That’s the kind of layout I like. It’s easy to stop reading when you are on a train and need to get off. Actually it’s the ideal chapter lenght, I love that. I would definitely pick up another book by Freeman and give this one 4*/5
