I am hooked on this series!

This was my first Megan Erickson and she blew me away with these characters and the emotion surrounding them. Cal Payton is grumpy even on a good day. His life wasn’t going anything like he hoped once upon a time. When he graduated high school, he had hopes of opening a motorcycle repair shop and marrying his beautiful girlfriend but that all came to sudden stop when he punched her obnoxious brother. When her family threatened charges, the girl he loved broke things off with him and left town. His father, a bitter and angry man in his own right, refuses to allow bikes to be worked on his car repair garage and Cal feels his choices are running out. It might be time to step away from the family he’s always felt responsible for, and create his own life. Jenna MacMillan had stayed away from the town she’d grown up in, where her family ruled supreme, and the only boy to ever truly claim her heart still lived. She’s returned to Tory to use her public relation skills to help bring her family’s business back from the brink of destruction her brother had managed to cause and now home was home again but was it possible for things to work the way they should have, perhaps even better, the second time around? Megan Erickson has conjured the most realistic, intriguing, and eclectic group of characters in DIRTY THOUGHTS, and I loved them all…well, except for Dylan…or Dill Pickle, as Delilah refers to him, which still makes me laugh. The easy way between the characters, the natural dialogue, and the way their feelings come through make the folks of Tory into friends and family. Cal recognizes that he’s allowing the bitterness of the last ten years and the sense of having lost his childhood because of his parents’ selfishness and having to be father and brother to his two siblings wear on him and he fears becoming exactly like his old man. Having the woman he never stopped loving, the woman who could brighten his day with just a smile, come back into his life was a start especially after she told him the truth of the past. He tries to stay away from her though because he doesn't want to go down that road again...doesn't want to get hurt again. He tries to keep to his isolated place away from everyone so he can have peace of heart, mind, and soul but Jenna isn’t that easy to ignore. Especially when a new brother, a half-brother, a teenage brother from his mother’s second marriage that he never even knew existed shows up on his doorstep, needing him. She takes him and Asher under her wing, and together they become the family the young man needs. But the most amazing thing is watching Cal open his heart to both of them. Watching these characters change and grow, fall in love, create love and acceptance, and worry and fret as only a family can, makes the Paytons my new favorites. Other than stumbling over editing errors sprinkled throughout the writing, there was nothing at all wrong with this story. It flowed with ease, steamed up my glasses with the passion between Cal and Jenna, kept me hooked page after page, and made me smile when I needed to and my heart ache when Cal felt the world closing in on him. He’s a real man and Jenna is his perfect match. I can’t wait to read Brent’s story next. Yes, I’m a bit behind because DIRTY TALK is already out but it's waiting on my reader. I'm coming, Brent! If you love a good small town, second chance at love romance, if you love strong realistic characters full of life and faults, DIRTY THOUGHTS by Megan Erickson is for you. I highly recommend you read this one. Jenna is not just Cal’s Sunshine - I think she’s everyone’s Sunshine. ***purchased for my own personal reading and I'm so glad I did.

    Sexy reunited lovers story!

In this sexy and emotional story, Jenna has returned to her home town after a 10 year absence, during which she tried hard to put her high school boyfriend Cal out of her mind. Though she and Cal had loved each other fiercely, conflict between him and her family had resulted in her breaking things off with Cal for what she believed would be his benefit and she'd left to nurse her wounded heart and focus on a new future. Now back to try to repair the image of her father's failing company, seeing Cal, who'd never left their small town is a given. But she didn't count on her buried feelings for him rising to the surface so quickly. Cal is shocked to see Jenna again, and not overly pleased. It took him long enough to get over his heartbreak in the first place and having her back in town threatens to break through the cap he's put on his emotions since she left. But Jenna isn't going anywhere this time, and when the two of them begin to reconnect, all Cal's good intentions to keep his heart intact fly out the window. Can Jenna convince Cal that this time, she's here to stay? When you have a couple who've split up under circumstances that didn't involve cheating or trust issues or the like, it's not hard to imagine that if they had strong feelings for each other, they wouldn't really die out. And this is certainly the case for Jenna and Cal. What I really enjoyed about this story was how the two of them have grown and matured over their time apart but still have maintained the core of their personalities that drew them together in the first place. Jenna comes across as a warm, loving, generous person. Though she is nervous to see Cal again, especially since she was the one who broke things off in the first place, she faces him with a new maturity and strength, one Cal can see right away. She's here in town to help her family, the one that got in the way of their relationship in the first place, and she's determined to improve the image of their business and put her skills to work. Cal is a rather gruff, quiet individual. He's hidden his heartbreak by refusing to let his heart get involved again and has succeeded in keeping himself closed off. He's also a loyal and giving person, having raised his two younger brothers Brent and Max when his mother abruptly abandoned their family. But without a woman in his life he's starting to take on the persona of his father, another gruff and taciturn individual. He's decided that he doesn't need a family of his own, having raised his brothers and gone through one heartbreak when he lost Jenna - having a wife and children is not in the cards for him. Jenna appearing back in his life is like a bolt of sunshine to his heart, lighting things up inside and breaking through those emotional barriers. She's just as beautiful to him now as she was back then, and the searing attraction between them hasn't faded over time. They can't resist each other, and the love scenes between them are steamy and emotional. One of the more interesting aspects for me about this story is the relationship that Cal has with his brothers and his father. Having dealt with no maternal influence for so long and having taken up the mantle of caring for his family, he doesn't see at first how much they support him too. They are there for him as much as the other way around and when push comes to shove, they band together. I loved Cal's relationship with his brother Brent (who was a kick-ass character all on his own). There were lots of laughs and camaraderie between the two of them as they constantly bicker and fight for the upper hand. Also, Jenna's friendship with Delilah, her best friend throughout high school, was fun and heartwarming. She's another no nonsense type of gal, giving Jenna the gears regarding her feelings for Cal and making her confront the reality in front of her while still being strong and supportive. (Here's hoping Delilah will get an HEA too!) When an unexpected surprise turns up in town, Cal does what he always does - becomes the solid, support for his family, unwavering in his dedication. Only this time, he has Jenna by his side, giving him 100%. The harder he tries to keep his heart intact, the more he realizes that it's a losing battle. Jenna on the other hand, has already realized that Cal is still the one for her, and her patience and understanding with him are sweet to see. They are really a couple that deserves each other and though they have to deal with several things before they can be together, their happy ending was hugely satisfying. 5 stars for this great start to a new series! I can't wait to see where it leads to next.
