    Where's the Heat?!

Dr. An(Drew) Nichols and Alexa Monroe, meet in a malfunctioning elevator that is stuck with just the two of them. Resolved to their fate, they strike up a conversation. Eventually, Drew shares his tale of woe of being harangued into being a part of the wedding party of his ex-girlfriend and his ex-best friend. Cue the violins for the last minute drop-out of his wedding date and you can see why he'd ask a perfect attractive stranger to be his date. Alexa says yes, and it goes as well as can be expected and the wedding party and guests are intrigued with her. Afterwards, realizing they like one another, they embark on a long distance relationship, traveling back and forth between their respective cities. They both have high-powered careers, she's an attorney and works for the Mayor and eventually, misunderstanding(s) and the distance causes a wedge between the two of them and they take a break from one another. Alexa (unfairly IMO) gets angry at Drew when clear communication would have resolved the issues. To his credit, Drew doesn't kowtow to her by calling and pleading his case. I wish heroines would STOP getting angry and start being more honest about what "they" want in any type of relationship. Overall, I liked the story, but not the fade to black sex scenes. The story lacked heat. I don't need explicit details, but I definitely needed something more. I voluntarily received, read and reviewed the paperback version of this book courtesy of Penguin and BookishFirst.

    very fun!

Getting stuck in an elevator with a hot guy totally sounds like a cheesy romantic comedy. Or so I thought, for some reason the author really made this work without being overly dramatic. I love that the story was told in both Drew and Alexa’s points of view within each of the chapters. I felt this way we, as readers know what was going on in each of their minds at the same point in time. I found the story a bit predictable towards the end, but didn’t mind because it was the way I wanted it to go. I immediately fell in love with Alexa, and was pulled in immediately. She was funny, flirty, cute and quirky all at the same time. Her mid tended to go into overdrive so quickly that I felt connected with her. I didn’t enjoy Drew at the get go, it took a while for me to actually start liking him, but I feel like that made the story more interesting. There were a few short steamy scenes, which I wasn’t really expecting, but didn’t make me too uncomfortable. They were pretty quick and to the point. Overall I would highly recommend this book to any lover of contemporary books who wants a quick and easy read that they can just enjoy.

    This was so cute!

This was such a cute book! I loved it! Alexa and Drew meet in a hotel elevator when it breaks down and they're stuck in there together. It's quickly obvious that they have good chemistry and seem to get along. Drew is in town for the wedding of an ex and a good friend. He is dreading going to this wedding alone after his date backed out on him. Drew asks Alexa to be his date to the wedding and pretend to be his girlfriend. After spending the weekend together for wedding actives it becomes clear that the two of them have a spark, but with Drew refusing to do long-term, serious relationships do the two of them even stand a chance? Drew and Alexa were so cute together. Even though the booked addressed some more serious issues at times, it still felt like a light, fun read! I received a free electronic copy to read and review through Penguin's First to Read Program.

    Lots of Chemistry!

THE WEDDING DATE checks off all the boxes in what I want from a charming and warm romance book: A strong female lead who is comfortable in her natural curves A charming and sexy male lead who appreciates natural beauty A multiracial couple that discusses their differences Chemistry - lots of it Alexa and Drew meet in a stalled elevator at the Fairmount Hotel in San Francisco. They are immediately attracted to each other - the sparks don’t fly just yet... After some flirty banter he divulges he’s in town from Santa Monica for his ex’s wedding. Did I mention his ex is marrying his former best friend and he’s been asked to be a groomsman? So awkward... Drew needs a plus one to get him thru the weekend festivities and Alexa agrees to be his fake girlfriend. By the end of the weekend Alexa and Drew have had some very hot encounters and can’t keep their hands off each other. They spend the next two months jetting back and forth for weekend visits and the chemistry between the two of them is palpable. The plot is predictable but carried out so well and the ending comes full circle back to the Fairmount elevator all wrapped up in a delightfully sweet package. Guillory hits all the high notes with this one - it’s modern, fresh and sexy! The writing is fast paced and all consuming - I was utterly entertained and didn’t want it to end.
