A Fun and Sweet Love Story

Actual rating 4.5 stars The Distance Between Us is all kinds of sweetness and swoons. I loved Kasie West's writing and was completely sucked into the story from the start. Caymen's sense of humor and sarcasm are a real highlight and I laughed out loud throughout the book from gems like this: “Note to self: Caymen is very good at sarcasm.” “If you’re recording notes for an official record, I’d like the word ‘very’ stricken and replaced with ‘exceptionally.” I love how her relationship with Xander developed and grew. It felt natural and sincere. They both have their own family baggage and misconceptions about the other at first, but as they take the time to get to know each other, all of that falls away and what you're left with is just plain perfect. It reminded me a lot of Pride and Prejudice. The "career days" were an adorable addition and really helped show the vulnerabilities, fears, and strengths of both Caymen and Xander. The only reason why this isn't a 5 star read for me is because I thought the big reveal/ending was a little too perfect. Caymen's family is a mystery for almost the entire book and then suddenly, surprise, your grandparents are actually crazy rich, want to be a part of your life, and are ready to swoop in and take care of you and your mom and the doll store. I understand how earth shattering this revelation is to Caymen, that her mother has lied to her her entire life, but it wrapped everything too neatly into a bow for me. Even though Xander doesn't like Caymen because she's rich and I can see how this plot point helped prove that/added drama to their relationship, I felt like it was too rushed. It's been 17 years. Caymen has never met them or even known that they existed, but it all works out perfectly and her mom does a complete 180 too and is ready to allow them back into her life. The one thing I did like though, was that Caymen's grandfather had the same sense of humor as her. He delivered a few great lines, like this one when he first meets Caymen: “Hi, I’m stranger one and this is stranger two. Are you uncomfortable yet?” Overall, The Distance Between Us was exactly what I was hoping it would be - a really enjoyable, funny, and sweet love story.

    The Distance Between Us

I loved this book. I am glad Cayman didn't wasn't Xander just because he was rich. There's to much of that now in the world.

    Audiobook Review

I’ve read a few of Kasie West’s books over the years and have enjoyed most of them. She is a great storyteller. It’s always easy to become captivated by her stories and connect with her characters. This book was no different. Both Caymen and Xander were likeable and relatable and I had no trouble getting into their story. While the story was a bit predictable, it was still enjoyable. If you’ve read Kasie West’s YA Contemporary Romances in the past, then you know her style, and this book follows that same style. The Distance Between Us is another cute little YA Romance, easy to get into, a quick and easy read, light and fluffy. I will say, though, that I think I prefer reading Kasie West’s books over listening to them. I listened to an audio book version of this one. It was still good, but I’m not sure – I just think I would have liked it better in the written form.

    Great

As usual Kasie West has created a work of art. It's interesting without being too heavy ; light without being airheaded. I really enjoyed this book.
