    98% Sure This Isn’t a Parody

This is easily the worst book I’ve read in a while, to the point that I kept my roommates up to date with a running commentary on how bad it was. Every idea presented in this book is done in the most generic way possible. The characters, setting, and concept are all bland and forgettable, the overall style lacking, and the love triangle goes beyond generic and right into tawdry. There are massive issues with the representation of race and gender, really beyond the scope of a Kobo review. There are attempts at feminism and general insight, but nothing gets more than skin deep, and there’s no wider cultural critique in the dystopian in presents. It would be a parody, if it didn’t read so straight. I’d recommend any readers interested in the military scifi aspect check out Paradox Series by Rachel Bach, and YA dystopias read The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow.
