    great book

I loved “The Amateurs” last year and couldn’t wait for the sequel to come out. I enjoyed the first book so much and I just had to know what happens next. Sara Shepard really can write amazing suspense stories. Pulled in from the very first line nothing could brake the spell and I kept reading. In this book the pace seems to be even faster than the previous, possibly because we already know the main characters. The killer seems to be everywhere always being one step ahead and Madison, Maddox, Seneca and Aerin having a hard time to keep up. It doesn’t take them long to figure out, that it is the same killer they met not long ago and who got away. The ending came too fast and left me wanting more. Now I need book three asap. I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Disney Book Group!

    Case Not Closed

For once I've been generous, I was going to give this 1 star and then upgraded it to 2 at the last minute. The reason being this is the second novel of a series and I haven't read the first so that could be part of the reason I really did not enjoy this book. That said there is an awful lot of talking about what happened in the first book going on which is to the detriment of moving the book forward. Basically Seneca, Aerin, Madison and Maddox are the modern day Scooby Gang and Thomas pops in occassionally to liven things up. None of these characters read as anything other than flat and one-dimensional and the premise that the police would take these teens seriously is ridiculous and the fact they never get warned off "investigating" is palpably laughable. The evil protagonist, Brett or whatever he decides to call himself on any given day, is not the criminal mastermind the team seem to believe he is but rather clumsy and if they had read any crime novel or watched any crime series they would be able to see right through him. I am sure there is a market for this book for the YA audience as a primer to a "proper" crime story but when you consider some of the excellent fiction out there specifically marketed for this age group I am not even so sure about that. I did finish the book but had to grit my teeth to do so and power on through. Honestly, if you are outside the target audience I would seriously recommend giving this one a miss.
