Great overview of building an indie author career

Joanna does a great job covering the various aspects of developing a a solid indie author career. I've been building my own career for a few years and I still got some very useful ideas. It's a great book to read over every 6-12 months as your career develops because you'll get something different out of it each time, depending on where you are on your journey. And she's included references, both online and other books, if you want to dive deeper into some of the areas.

    Great handbook for authors

Joanna Penn is known for her advice to writers through her blog and podcasts, as well as her previous books. She is passionate about writing and for her it is clearly not a job but a vocation. But it is a business that she makes pay as well. This is a great book for writers starting out and seasoned writers who want to take their writing up to the next level of earnings. Penn lays out the steps from choosing a form of publication to various marketing options in a very clear and succinct manner with lots of very useful links for areas the reader might want to explore in detail. Highly recommended

    Perfect

Every aspiring author should read that book. It drives me nuts when someone who isn't living off their writing are giving advice, telling others what they can or can't do. Joanna is living what she writes about, she is is on the field practicing what she preaches. I'm going to read it again.

    Realistic Yet Positive

This book provides a clear set of principles required in order for a writer to properly consider the move from writing as a part-time activity, and allowing it to be something they can afford to do full time. Filled not only with advice, links to free worksheets and a slew of other amazingly helpful resources, the author also includes her own personal experiences, including mistakes she has made along the way in order to better equip readers of this book with knowledge. What I like most about this book is that it's not trying to sell authors the dream of making millions or any of those other ludicrous bait-traps. Penn keeps the focus on realistic and achievable things that an author can and should focus on in order to build a solid career as a writer. And it explores elements beyond just writing great books. Penn offers pros and cons of various paths a writer can take and continually reminds writers there's no one "you must do this" element and that each author has to take their own goals and desires into consideration before setting forth on their own path. What she does is clearly and concisely outlines options available to them along with examples from her own and from other writers careers. I highly recommend this for any author who is serious about building a long-last career as a writer. To quote from the book: "There is no secret and we all have the same amount of time. We get what we focus on."
