Things are heating up in the kitchen!

This contemporary m/m romance is the story of Trevor and Tyler and is the third in the In The Kitchen series. Though it can be read as a standalone, the characters of Jamie and Ethan from the first two books play a prominent role in this one. Trevor is a wealthy, handsome man and best friends with Jamie, though their friendship was tested when Jamie got together with Ethan. They still have some rocky moments, and when Trevor meets Tyler, the new young chef in Jamie and Ethan's restaurant, he is warned away from treating him in any fashion like the one night stands he's used to. Tyler is too young for him, Trevor knows this, and he also knows that he isn't relationship material. But when things heat up between them, is he going to be able to walk away? I really enjoyed this story! I had not read the first two in the series, so if you're a stickler for reading in order (I am not) you might want to have a go at them first because you do learn some fairly significant plot details about the evolution of Jamie and Ethan's relationship and how Trevor fits into the picture. But I didn't find anything confusing and the amount of detail was enough that it was easy to get right into this one. Trevor was a really interesting character, as this well heeled, well dressed, confident and assured man - who is thrown for a loop by these feelings he has for Tyler. He makes mistake after mistake with him, but keeps trying and I appreciated that he didn't give up on showing Tyler that he was worth all that attention. Tyler was a slightly awkward, shy, quiet and unassuming young man. He's ten years younger than Trevor but being homeless for a while, kicked out by his parents when they found out he was gay meant he had to grow up really quickly. He's grateful for the assistance Jamie and Ethan have given him, but at the same time, isn't quite ready to stand up to them and show them that he's more mature and older than they give him credit for. I liked how his character evolved over the course of the story, as he came into his own and was able to finally express his own needs and desires. The relationship between Tyler and Trevor is a pretty rocky one right from the start. But the sexual chemistry keeps them trying and their love scenes are hot and steamy. I did find it a bit disconcerting when Trevor, Ethan and Jamie would refer to Tyler as the "kid" - I didn't have a problem with their ten year age difference but I kind of wish Tyler had been not 20, but maybe 21 to start? Though I realize this was a significant reason for the problems between them, he did sometimes come across as too young for Trevor. But by the end of the story, their relationship is firmly established and believable. They get a nice happy ending, and we get a lovely, heartfelt romance. 4 stars.
