Who doesn't love a sexy hockey player

Hotness Rating 3 out of 5 Melting the Ice is just plain old fun to read. Where this 7th book of the Play by Play series by Jaci Burton may have lacked a little from what I've come to love of this series it made up for in witty antics from the male protagonist and some really heartwarming moments. Carolina had history with Drew and she just couldn't let it go. I get it. A man takes your virginity (although she did willingly and enthusiastically offer it up) and then walks away it's going to sting. Probably for a long, long time. And when he's the best friend of your brother which means your paths are going to cross more than normal it makes it that much harder. Drew entertained me a lot! He knew he screwed up with Carolina and really had no excuse other than he was young, stupid and just starting out in a career that was promising him great things. Now, that he's finally settled into life he just can't seem to quit thinking about Carolina and wants to explore things more. I loved how he didn't make up any excuses. He laid it out there for Carolina and basically said this is what I did then. This is what I am now. Can we please move on? I really appreciate how grown up Carolina was about everything. After having it laid out there she did move on and didn't continue to punish Drew for the sins of the past. Although, she did reserve her trust of forever and I totally got that. I admire her restraint in not making him pay for some of the crap he pulled in the present though. When the man basically stopped taking my calls and went from I can't get enough of you to meh, we'll chat when I have time I would've been a little less forgiving. He did come through in the end as every good contemporary romance hero should. Bottom line: there were times where I didn't necessarily feel a connection between the characters. Or maybe it was Drew's lack of stick-with-it that got to me. But, I felt like the romance was missing a little something. That being said both characters were truly good people and a joy to read. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves Jaci Burton or a good sports romance.

    It was okay

** spoiler alert ** 3.5 Stars Carolina and Drew have a past. They shared one drunken night together in college, then Carolina wakes up the next morning alone and broken-hearted. Her crush had literally crushed her hopes and dreams of a relationship. But Carolina shook it off, concentrated on her dreams and is now on the verge of becoming a successful clothing designer. The last thing she needs is Drew trying to work his way back into her life, and her heart. Drew is a super sexy hockey player with the body of a Greek god. Ever since he saw Carolina at her family’s Fourth of July barbecue, he’s wanted a second chance to show her he’s not the same man he was back in college. Luck is on his side when his best friend, and Carolina’s brother, Gray gives him a call to ask him for help with Carolina’s clothing line by being a model for her fashion show. Drew is ready for the challenge of winning Carolina over, but his plans to get back into her good graces ends them both in a no-strings sexual relationship that has Drew, surprisingly, wanting more. Is it possible for two people with busy careers to have sex without emotional attachments or will love find a way of blossoming regardless of the couple’s protests? I had some mixed feelings about this book. I thought Carolina was a workaholic with no passion whatsoever. I didn’t think she and Drew had good sexual chemistry. I realize they had a bad past but the love scenes weren’t believable for me. I did think Drew was incredibly sexy and I loved the description of his hockey games. What completely broke my heart in the book was the scene with Drew and Bill, Drew’s dorm parent from college. Bill was a mentor and a second father to him, Gray, Garrett, and Trevor. Bill is dying of cancer and the thought of losing him has hit the guys hard. I was totally balling as Drew and Bill had what may be their last conversation together. What I also noticed about the book was that Drew’s family isn’t mentioned or talked about that much. The series has always been family-oriented so it was a little disappointing not to see that aspect of the story. I enjoy reading about these new players but I do miss seeing the Riley family. I’m very much looking forward to Haven and Trevor’s book. Jaci Burton is a wonderful story teller. Her books are fast-paced reads filled with humor, family and love. And a lot of sexy athletes :) ***I received an ebook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***
