    Ive got the WOWSHEKINDASOUNDSLIKEMES

My life as an alphabet is an amaaaaziiinnggg book about a literal, logic girl. BUT, it is funny at times with some/lots of serious bits. Make sense? I would give it 9\10. I have tried to write this as simply as possible …/)^3^(\!!

    Funny, sad and so original

Candice is a socially inept, very literal and good hearted twelve year old who has been set a class assignment to write an autobiography using each letter of the alphabet as the topic for each paragraph, except that she writes a whole chapter for each letter. As we read, Candice reveals her little idiosyncracies that make everyone wonder where she is on the autistic spectrum, although she just says she is not on any spectrum, she is just an original, We also gain insight into her less than perfect family and see the developing friendship with Douglas from her unique perspective. I laughed, there are moments of genuine slapstick, and her pondering about religious beliefs of her goldfish was an example of the many funny incidents and exchanges in the book. The humour and the quirkiness do not however dim the sadness and the frustrations of the characters in the story as Candice tries to find a way of repairing her broken family. This was such an enjoyable novel, I will be reading more by Barry Jonsberg.
