This story is what you get when you mix the art world with an old cult mystery. The rescued children of a cult, now adults, find themselves drawn back into the mystery of the cult leader and his attempts to cleanse all evidence of the cult and its members by fire. The death of one of the women that were in the cult raises the suspicions of an art dealer that has her disturbing paintings. The dealer was a child at the cult and the artworks suggest that the cult leader may still be alive and after something the artist had. The investigator she engages helps her with solving the mystery. They are followed, shot at, trapped in burning buildings and face trauma from their past. This is a good mystery story and the relationship between the main characters is easy and inviting. The dialogue feels real and genuine. The secondary characters help with the solution of the case as well as adding extra complications. For these characters family is not necessarily a biological link, but those that care for you, support and love you.

Jayne Ann Krentz has done it again with another strong, intelligent heroine and a hero with enough flaws to be interesting and believable. Add a tight plot with a good number of twists and turns and we have another assured success. Like most of JAK's works, I read it in a sitting.
